Is the leather in the Beckmans essentially equivalent to the leather in the GTs? Is the Featherstone as good as the Chromexcel leather?
The GT is considered part of the Beckman line. The Featherstone leather of the Beckman/GT line is much stiffer than Chromexcel and needs more breaking in.
Is the consensus that if you wear in general wear 8.5M in AE, Florsheim etc. that you shoud size down to 8M or 8E in red wings? Is this with a woolen sock? Edited by cbfn - 9/16/11 at 3:47am

Not for me. I wear the same size in AE as in Red Wing.

Thanks, Bl@ster! I think I am going to do the same, hate wearing thight boots.
This has to be my favorite boot ever, to bad I can never own a pair. Anyone know of something comparable that can be had in a 13 wide besides the Katahdin?

I don't think it is a 100% consensus but it works for some people. I wear 8.5D in AE and my GTs are 8.0D and fit well. They are a bit harder to get into than normal but once they are on my feet they are fine. I am using a wool sock (Columbia Smartwool). HTH!
If I have slightly wider feet, what size should I go for if I'm normally a 11 in AEs / dress shoes and 11.5 in sneakers. (standard width). Planning on wearing the boots with just standard uniqlo socks most of the time, maybe wool when it gets really cold.
