I dont think applying obeanauf sooner will help. I tried obenauf on my brand new pair, on a tiny spot inside the tongue area. It doesnt get absorbed at all and leaves a shiny finish.

I believe its due to the leather still new with natural oil and stuff. The leather was treated in the tannery so maybe its good to roll without much additional care.

I will again, try to apply obenauf on my GT later to see if it gets absored.

Just want to give you guys a heads up... the black cherry gentleman traveler is on "sale" at bakershoe.com + they have a promo right now for an extra discounted 14.95 for shipping. type "usps" as the promo code. I grabbed a pair myself. With all the fuss about sizing, I hope I chose the right size. Super excited to get them.

If you sized 0.5 down you're set. Thats all.

i'll probably get shit on for this but here goes:

a red wing dealer in my town has the #9011 Beckman boots for sale at 178. They look exactly like GTs, are these the same boots? I've heard a lot of conflicting stuff that they may be a different leather or that its just a name change.

Someone take pity on me and help me out.

Same boot. The Beckman title is a recent addition. Number refers to the style/color combo (moc toe, plain, etc.). Pretty good deal.

oh man that makes me happy.

thanks a lot.
they are almost the same. except the name and leather used. ^GT used the Chromexcel leather while Beckman uses the Featherstone. I'm not leather expert so I can't tell which is better. The beckman leather is awesome as I own the 9013. I can just stare at it for minutes while drifting off at work. By the way, that's a very good deal you saw at your local store!

Does anyone have issues with the wood soles of the Gentleman Travelers separating? Mine were separating around the front toe area and the inside arches. I sent them back to Bakers for a repair. They glued the soles, but they are already starting to split again after a week of wear. Is this something to worry about, or just let it go until I need to resole?

^ ditto, mine are doing the same thing, any suggestions?

Go to your local cobbler.

What do you guys think about these boots with slimmer jeans? I just got some 9013's and they are a bit chunkier then I was expecting. I think they look okay but am worried they look a little 'clown shoeish' with my 511's and Weird Guys. Maybe I just need to get used to them. What jean's do you prefer with these things?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

My chestnuts are doing the same thing. I asked a cobbler and he said it was normal and that the welt is both glued and stitched, and the stitching will still hold the leather together.

I'm hoping to post some pictures of mine soon..I've had them for almost 5 months.

I also have a pair of the black centennial limited edition boots (8284) with a leather sole.

hey guys, have a pair of 9.5 size red wings for sale, i was retarded and didnt pay attention to the advice here to size down .5 So anyways they are going for 179 currently, open to offers of course http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=232718

Got them last week

Applied mink oil after a few days of wear

Still stiff and loving the break in process, it reminds me of when I was breaking in my army boots when I was still in the military.

For those considering to get a pair, the boots are comfortable as is, just need to break in to soften the leather. As far as sizing goes, I listened to most here and downsized 0.5 from my clark's desert boots size. Wearing them 7 days a week, waiting for them to get trashed! I'll try post better quality pictures regularly.
