I am done with 'food products'... - Page 5

To go off into the weeds here, dental health really went downhill when we started growing grains and eating them. The combination of starches and the tiny shards of stone mixed into the flour from the millstones did hell on man's teeth. My proposal is that we eat whole foods that we've cooked ourselves when we can, made with products that only include things that we need. For example, I don't need preservatives in my salad dressing or red dye in my barbeque sauce. They're cosmetic things for the most part and I don't feel like I want to pay for those extras or put them in my body, so I don't. That said, modern nutrition is badass. I'd read an article in either Discover or Scientific American awhile ago about how the Norwegians have grown several inches on average over the past century, due to better diets. With that in mind though, better diet doesn't require a diet full of processed stuff.

Is shorter bad? I don't really think so.
Is more obese bad? Definitely.

Long or brief life? I'd prefer to live longer. But, what has allowed us to live longer than our ancestors? Modern medicine, stabilization of society through laws and government, prevention of famine, and limiting caloric intake. Now these last two, prevention of famine and limiting caloric intake are not mutually exclusive.

I'm speculating when I think that our bodies perform better with a lesser caloric intake because of the environment that our ancestors evolved in.

You are correct that in the EU, general health and height had increased due to nutrition. However, they eat more whole, organic foods than we do. Also, modified foods, which have be legal here for some time, genetic and chemically, are banned there.

Another part of that survey shows that American's have not kept up with their EU counterparts. They are healthier, taller and less obese than us. That indicates that we are doing something wrong. We are missing something.

They have slimmer shirts they need to fit into.

(Don't try to put the American diet against another nation when the diet itself isn't necessarily the cause.)

Regardless of whatever certain studies suggest, I prefer the taste of minimally processed foods. My diet consists mainly of fresh produce, lean meat, and whole grains. I've never been fitter either. So if gummy bears post workout work for you, fine, but I'll stick to what works for me.
