I weigh 145lbs right now but since I am 6foot tall it does not look it on me. I want to get my weight up to 165lbs. Part of the plan is to go back to the gym and the other is to start eating 6 meals a day and 4 snacks instead of 3 meals and 2 snacks as I am doing now. Can someone hint on what to eat and how much of it. I am going to get myself a personal trainer once I hit to gym to help me out but any extra info would be great. I do not want to look like vin diesel but just a guy with some meat on him, a little bulk perhaps. Thanks in advance.

I don't recommend weight gainer shakes. The stuff you typically find in them isn't good for you at all. I think Muscle Milk is a great protein shake that is healthy and will help you gain mass too (18g of all GOOD fats). Eat lots of whole foods, red meat, Steel Cut oatmeal, eggs with yolks, etc... If you have a Trader Joes near you, you'll be good. Gaining mass is not a license to eat a lot of junk food, though you can cheat a bit more. Lots of Chipotle and Subway can help too. Lift weights, cut back your cardio. 6 meals a day is good but you might need more as your activity increases... try to get 2x your body weight in protein, 4x carbs and about 4,000 - 6,000 calories a day (depending on how fast you want to do this and if you don't mind more body fat). You sound like a hard gainer, so you may need more calories than most, but I wouldn't rush into eating a ton of calories at first. You should ramp up gradually and not all at once. As for supplements... creatine mixes with carbs like CellTech (or cheaper alternative), Protein like Muscle Milk, Fish/Flax Seed oil, sport drinks like Accelerade, multivitamin and maybe glutamine too. I'm iffy on that pro-hormone stuff, I never did it, but I've seen people get results.

Thanks a lot for all the wise words. I want to try to stick to just good old food no protien mixes or creatine of any sort. I have done that before and they have a bad impact on me. I mean if people did it in the olden days before all this junk I think I can do it now. Its just so hard to fit 6 meals in a day.

Definitely would be hard without the protein shakes. I am in a similar situation as you are. I used to weigh ~125-130 lbs at 5'11. My weight hovers around 150+ lbs right now. Not too sure of what your schedule is like, but when I was trying to put on some weight, I used to have protein powder at my desk at the office - which allowed me to sip at it after breakfast and during tea time. Similarly, I would think you could stock up on similar nutritious food products (there should be threads on this) in order to be munching at your desk throughout the day, coupled with the gym. Egg whites should be convenient, as well as small calorific sandwiches. I am no expert, but based on my experience, this would be my general guide to you

Do yourself a favor and spare the junk food. Just because you want to gain 20lbs it does not give you carte blanche to eat shit. In my opinion clean bulk is the best way to go. If you are eating quality food and enough of it you can gain about a pound a week.
Also skip the weight gainer products they are full of sugar and other bs. I make my own and they taste unreal. Here is my recipe:
Grind rolled oats to a fine powder
add 1 scoop of chocolate optimum nutrition whey protein
about a tbsp of peanut butter
add milk
blend
amazing.

I've never tried to blend anything with peanut butter... does it blend easy enough?

Get 2-3 lb rotisserie chickens from the grocery store. Eat two a week, mixed with vegetables or beans, in addition to what you eat now. Drink twice as much milk as you drink now. Lift two-three times a week. Give it a year.
You don't need to eat six times a day. Add one extra meal and start committing to protein intake.

eat something before going to bed.
i wish i had this type of problem where i wanted to figure out how to gain weight. for me, i can eat 5000+ calories in one day without even a blink. i wish i had the control others do.
im actually in the process of trying to lose weight.
after losing some weight , i gained some weight again, back to 181 lbs or so. i eat like a madperson, that is my natural inclination all my life.
im doing a weight control thing now with Herbalife Formula 1 shake in the morning with a coffee, and a salad and shake for lunch and a normal dinner at home.

it might actually be easier to eat more meals throughout the day. 4-6k clean cals split between four meals is a lot of food at each sitting.

You can gain weight easy by drinking protein or weight gainers but I find the excess weight just ends up on my waist line.
As for vin diesel, nothing special about his physique. Any clown can after training look like vin.

Muscle milk? Tried it and found nothing special about it.
Unless its that brand with funky flavours like root beer, then thats the thing going for it.
