A conservative personality for the Food Network? - Page 3

Personally I thought that Food Network is successful because it adds something to the traditional "cooking show" format. I remember watching cooking shows when I was younger, maybe ten years ago, and they were all really drab and boring. I can't see a Food Network show having a conservative chef... isn't that what the local noon news is for?

And when you say conservative, do you lament the fact that the show focuses too much on the host, doesn't get technical/culinary enough, or just that you wish they weren't as flamboyant?

Giada de Laurentiis' show doesn't seem too annoying to me. Even more importantly she's a knockout. Even if she was annoying I wouldn't mind watching.

+1. I thought she was pregnant though and wasn't doing the show anymore?

That lady is hot!! Even if she were as annoying as that dumb bitch rachel ray, I'd still be able to tolerate it. I'd just mute the Tv.

I like her show, but she seems so pretentious and pedantic. she's always correcting people on how true italians pronounce things.

Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill has his own show on PBS in Chicago. He does a fantastic job of mixing some culture and food into an entertaining show that still focuses on the finished product and process rather than the look and feel. My girlfriend watches a lot of Food Network, and I can barely tolerate any of it, but I do enjoy the Rick Bayless show.

you could also try America's Test Kitchen on PBS. The host wears a bow-tie and they test recipes.

Giata is pretentious, but she's hot as all hell.

And every time I hear Rachel Ray's voice I want to punch her in the face. Every time she says "smashed potatoes" I want to throw my tv out the window. And I love my tv. Unfortunately my wife love's her show (and I'll grudgingly admit her recipes are generally things I would love). But I fucking hate her.

How about Nigella? Her show is pretty toned-down. And she's hot. So there's that.

I think you have to look at the target audiences, eg for food network Canada, I've been watching for years and I've noticed the shows have changed quite a bit.
I used to love a show called "cook like a chef", just passionate chefs teaching technique and such...

My opinion is, nowadays there's so much access to information and techniques and such that people just want to be entertained. they don't want to know the measurements becuase they're not going to make it! they just want to watch a show about food and people enjoying food. or some game show related to food. It's entertainment!

I can't help but think of this when I think of Giada. I wish I had seen that episode.

Is that safe for work? The "...gasm" in the URL makes me worry IT will come have a word with me.

It's totally safe, at least, I thought it was. It's just a bunch of screenshots with captions under them. No nudity, maybe some cusswords though.
