I was reading the new top ten list of jeans again, and I thought it would be really useful to do a thread regarding the relative slimness of different jeans (Brian SD rated eternals & SD-103s 2/5 - this is where the thought came from). It should be interesting to get an idea of how jean X compares to Y to Z for those who have a pair or two but aren't able to go to BiG or SE or what have you to compare.

I'll try and keep this first one updated/edited if there's enough information to make it useful.

1 being tight/painted on/sufu sized, and 10 being baggy. Typical sizing directions would apply for consistency (e.g. size down 2 in NS, size up 2 in LVC, true-to-size, etc.). This is to prevent the size down 4 being a 1 on the scale anomalies.

...if you size down or up enough, anything can be baggy or loose pretty much

+1. amazed at how many people have a perception of say, for instance, dior 19cm as extremely tight whereas they aren't-they're tapered and only "tight" if you size down too much.

while there are certain exceptions in terms of intended silhouette, you're right.

bullshit.

buy some rocawear jeans and size down 4 and see how tight it is.
The thigh is still going to be baggy but you won't be able to button the waist.
The "size down/up" thing only works on jeans that are regular in cut i.e levi's 501.

BTW. dior's are tight. size up 4 and they will still look tight, except that they won't fit. People could still tell the jeans are very slim but you sized up. The jeans won't stop your circulation, but it would look they are meant to if sized properly.

sorry but you're wrong. they are not inherently tight. do you own any? i have 5 pairs so i win, you lose. how would someone who wears a 30 wearing 34 dior mij which stretch like hell look tight? they wouldn't.

"but it would look they are meant to if sized properly"

and what's with the borat?

It isn't really a size up or size down debate. Let's assume that the jeans are worn to the silhouette they were meant to be worn. The idea is to kind of play off one another. Everyone has different body types and jeans fit quite differently on different people, but a pbj xx-005 is slimmer than a 45rpm sorahiko, and the sorahiko is looser than a skull 5010, etc. pretty much regardless of who wears it.

Try to get this through your head, sizing up does not change the silhouette.
Repeat after me "sizing up does not change the silhouette. "
The jeans would still look like they are meant to look tight, but you just sized up.
In other words, they won't look like a 501 on you just cause you sized up, they will look like tight jeans that are sized up.

well, you spelled douchebag wrong, so it's obvious you work in retail. can you tell me which store so i can avoid you like the plague and give my money to someone who doesn't think jeans are skinny when you size up by 4?

The classic "I got pwned so now I have to attack the spelling/grammer"...Nice

BTW. "sales associate" is not the only position available at Dior.

I suggest you measure the Dior 19cm upper thigh and compare it with some other jeans that have similar waist measurements. You will find that the Diors are often 0.5 to 1 inch slimmer, and this is before the taper.

Diors are slim jeans, it has nothing to do with sizing.

This could be a useful thread.

Edit: I think slimness is best looked at from a point of view of: how the widths of the different parts of the jean relate to each other. This ratio would obviously change slightly as you size up or down, and as you stretch certain parts of the jeans during wear. But what we're focusing on is the major changes in ratio when switching jean fits. Unfortunately I don't own any of these or have experience with what is considered slim, but I'm sure those in the know could rate jeans slimness by looking at different pairs on same size mannequins. What would be nice would be to see jeans sized up and sized down on same sized mannequins, to determine exactly how sizing up/down changes silhouette.
