^ I didn't take care of them for the first 8 months and they just got scuffed and dull. They ended up looking worse rather than better, which prompted the LP application that did absolutely nothing.

resurrecting this thread from teh dead but... i just got a pair of bean bluchers in brown and am trying to figure out some socks to wear them with through the fall and winter. any thoughts?

LL Bean has some nice ragg socks or those fleece socks to the right if you're feeling adventurous.

After a few months of pretty regular wear, I've had a couple problems with these shoes. The insole of one shoe has started to curl up, causing a lot of uncomfort when wearing them. Also, the stitching used for the moc toe of the other shoe has pierced through the upper of the shoe and is sticking out. I'm returning these and have already ordered a pair of burgundy Quoddy Trail bluchers to replace them. Can't wait!

Bass does have something similar, too bad it seems different than the one I wore in college in the mid-80s:

haha great to hear after just receiving mine today...i had a little bit of thread come loose when i wore mine out today but nothing to make a big deal about. i've seen some people around here get some good results with these shoes so i'm hoping for the best.

Despite the apparent decline in quality, I think I am going to snag a pair of Bean Bluchers. I know others have addressed sizing issues, but I wanted to nail it down. I wear a 10 in converse, does that mean I should get an 11 in bean bluchers?

I bought a pair of the Bass mocs a week or so ago, but I just couldn't shake the fervent calling of the Yuketen ranger mocs. The Bass mocs are comfortable, and a decently well made. As a self-plug, if someone wants to grab them off me they're in a size 9.5US and fit pretty true to size.

i've had my blucher moccs from ll bean and they've done me good. i walk hard on them and basically wore them all fall and winter in nyc. they took the beating but i dunno how many years they could really last. i might check the canoe moccs from quoddy

As far as I understand, the LL Beans from a few years ago are not the same as the ones they make now (I could be wrong.) I bought a pair of LL Bean Blucher Mocs because I saw a pic of them on this forum and they looked great. The ones I got in the mail looked lame and I returned them.

I recently polished mine with a darkish brown shoe cream, which did wonders for the color, from the rather bland light brown, to a richer brown.

FWIW, I wear a 9.5 Chuck Taylor and my Bean mocs are size 9.

Also, I use to wear these in college (many moons ago!) and the new leather really blows. It's now crappy corrected grain. But, on a positive note, they have this super comfy, anti-bacterial footbed-insert thing. I still like 'em for casual wear. They look better when they get beat up.

I'm probably going to buy a pair of arrows with crepe soles in a bit, they seem to be the best alternative if you think Quoddys are overpriced
