somebody bought me a Cohiba Maduro 5 last night. very nice, but not worth the price, in my opinion

Weekend cigars were:
- A Hoyo DC from '05 -- acceptable but not intriguing.
- A Monte Especial No. 1 from '98 -- excellent.
- A '96 Le Hoyo Du Roy -- fantastic.

Enjoying a single ligero oscuro right now, so consistent and smooth and delicious. Have had probably a box or two worth of these and they never fail to impress. Need to actually buy a box next time, highly recommend these ama and bdeuce, either L300 or 400 for a bigger version both great.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll pick one up and let you know what I think. (Assuming I can find it...)

The Flying Pig is fun, but its kind of a awkward smoke. I like the other sizes better.

Sounds like a good lineup. I'm a big fan of that Illusione.

I smoked a treat today: A ten plus year old Opus X Fuente Fuente. So smooth and creamy, you'd never even guess its related to a fresh one. The spiciness and harshness are gone. Copious amounts of smooth leather and gentle ceder take its place. The smoke is so thick it seems layered and the wrapper is so oily that it feels like one's lips slide off it. An incredible cigar experience, makes me wish I had the patients to lay them down for so long. Note also that the portions of the band that were white are now yellow. The cello was also pretty yellow but my BB camera wouldn't do it justice.

Nice. Opus are very nice. Mine yesterday reminded me why I pay a premium for them and anejos. I like opus slightly more.

Did you order some sharks?

V. Great recc on the single oscuro. Having one now. Almost finished. Good cigar. Just like the double but obviously less powerful.

For anyone who likes La Requiza's this seems like a pretty good deal:

I presume these were purchased from an individual, rather than a vendor? What's the celebration?
Yes, from a private sale...I am guessing for much better prices than I would find from a vendor. Not a celebration planned per se, just something to have if the occasion calls for some nice cigars. Have a Partagas '03 898 and '02 lonsdale lined up for tonight, have not had a cigar in about a week.

picking up some more single ligero oscuros in different vitolas to try them out. the 400 was fantastic.

Also, i've got some Opus X Sharks are coming my way. The price was too good to pass up. they are from the Dec 2009 release. I guess they are going to become regular production and probably just as difficult to find the Anejos.

Must be bang-for-your-buck night at the Gnattys. Both of those are great values.

I gave that AB Tempus another shot today. Much better! Full flavored, lots of pepper and coffee. Burn still sucked a little, but not as bad as the first one I had. Definitely worth trying.

The wrapper looks almost camouflaged alternating between shades of brown. Its dark, but I'm not entirely sure its a maduro, it kicks off a ton of spice so I'm thinking it might be a lingero or corojo. In fact, the general theme of the stick is pepper. It has a ton of spice and is a pretty strong smoke. The second most pronounced flavor was earth. Definitely mostly, if not entirely, Nicaraguan tobacco in there. The burn was pretty good, but the ash was flakey.

I'm pretty sure its a Padilla Obsidian. I just smoked a Dominous the other week and this tasted very similar. It was not as sweet as the Dominous, but had a lot of Padilla earth notes in it. I'm interested in seeing what it was.

It was actually a Graycliff. It was one of those special Editions they did with Davidoff a few years back. Its been sitting in my humi for a while. I think the wrapper was sungrown. Im surprised it wasnt more well rounded as it is at least 3 or 4 years old. I gotta look it up and see what kind of Tobacco was in it. Ive never had an Obsidian, they any good?

It was pretty good, but I am surprised it was that old, it was really aggressive for a cigar with age on it. Do you recall what the name of the cigar was? Have you ever had a Padilla Dominus? It was kind of like that, but less sweet. I don't think that Obsidians are worth tracking down, but if you get stuff from Cbid you may as well pay $5 for one and tack it on to your order.
