New Ferrari GT to be Revealed on Web

Maranello, May 9th 2008 – A new Ferrari Grand Tourer is in the offing and, in an innovative move, will be revealed to the fans and enthusiasts in a non-traditional way. In the build-up to the new model's official unveiling at the Paris Auto Show next October, we'll be revealing it bit by bit on the dedicated www.ferrarigtcountdown.com site which can also be accessed through the official Ferrari portal at www.ferrariworld.com

Visitors to the site will be guided through a sensory voyage of discovery which, over the coming weeks, will gradually reveal the new car in its entirety and feature some highly gratifying virtual road tests too.

The new site launches today and begins that voyage of discovery with the sense of sound. The roar of the new GT's engine will be the first bit of it to be revealed to enthusiasts, in fact, and will be followed over the next few days by the first photographs of this eagerly-awaited car whose name will also be revealed.

This is the first time that the Prancing Horse has used this virtual voyage of discovery approach which will allow it illustrate various aspects of the new GT model's design and the many, many technological innovations that it sports.

Updates and additions to the site will continue until the Paris Show. To ensure that you are kept constantly abreast of the new content being revealed, simply register with the site and then experience these sneak previews of this latest gorgeous Ferrari creation.

This new approach to unveiling the car will naturally also be flanked by more traditional encounters involving the release of photographs and, of course, the Paris Show. It is, in fact, just one part of a highly focused strategy that puts the web at centre stage as an instant, privileged communications channel through which Ferrari can keep in
constant contact with its burgeoning numbers of fans and enthusiasts worldwide.

Wow. A 2+2 hardtop convertible...that's never been done before I really hope the hardtop is carbon fiber, if not that car is going to weigh a lot (especially for a Ferrari).

From the mag reports, Ferrari is targeting the cars weight to be under 3,750 lbs....if so, that's quite impressive for a 2+2 hard-top conv.

My big question, is what will happen to other two GT's in the line-up...I would not mind seeing the 612 killed off, given the fact it is not the typical Ferrari beauty.

The exterior of the 612 is ok. Not great, just OK. The interior on the other hand is fantastic; I wouldn't mind having the luxury of sitting in there from time to time.

I saw a 599 the other day (even in Boca they aren't THAT common, F360's - F430's are far more "˜commonplace'), and while it's no great beauty, it is by far a better looking car than the 612. I think part of the problem was that since the 456 was so iconic, that topping it was no easy task, and Pininfarina really didn't succeed.

The funny thing about the 599, is the fact the pictures don't do it justice, it's actually quite attractive in person.

I have to recant previous statements made in another thread about 599's, I've see one in red at the 2007 Houston Grandprix, and thought it was ok. However after seeing one in all black recently (I know that's not the typical color of Ferrari), I remember thinking that it was a pretty quite the sexy looking car.

....and I agree on the interiors, although different from the Astons, they could almost give them a run for their money.

I haven't seen one in black...wait no, never mind, yes I have, but it was far away, so I'll reserve judgment until I am close up.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but as of late Lamborghini has had better designs than Ferrari. I mean it's nowhere as bad as the days of the Mondial T, but we aren't that far off either.

I actually think the Gallardo is pretty sweet looking car, but I still prefer it's distant brethren...the R8 Audi.

Then again, I see Gallardo's on a daily basis, and have only seen a R8 once.

To me, the 612 is one of the most beautiful and elegant of the modern day Ferraris. I hope they continue to make cars like the 612 and 456 (the 456 interior was much better). The 430, 599 are nice too (they are Ferraris!) but they are far from elegant in my opinion. The designs are starting to get a little BOY TOY.

Personally I'm underwhelmed with all interiors (99.99% percent in terms of dashboard) of modern ferraris. Too plasticy and techy. If I could afford a $200k ferrari I'd go with an older one in mint shape (pre 80s...). For my comfort and convenience I would have an Infinity or Audi.

Maybe that's the best way to describe how I feel about the exterior design of the 430...."boy-toyish".

I like it, I thought from the Road and Track mag, it was supposedly a 2+2 (I guess Iwas wrong).

Is it as good looking as a 550 or 575 Maranello? No, but I do prefer the styling to that of the 599 and 612.

Appreciate the link.

The problem with the 612 is that it looks bloated and heavy--almost boat-like. To my mind, the only curent Ferrari that is beautiful without qualificaiton is the F430.

I don't know, the 599 has something very Testarossa / 512M about it. But, yeah in terms of 'purity' of Ferrari, the F430 is the standard.

The 599 leaves me cold. Too weird. I hate the flying butresses, but the worst aspect of the car is the side view. I don't like how the lines from one vent overshoot the other's. That overlapping look is very current-generation Mercedes SL to me--and I don't like how that car looks either. Makes the car look sinuous at the expense of looking solid and purposeful.
