Does anyone know how Fred Perry came to be part of the skinhead uniform? Just curious.

You might want to brush up on your knowledge of skinheads...

Robin already posted the answer if you care to read the wiki article. It's not just a "skinhead" thing, it was more or less a mainstream company that a few related brit subcultures (notably the mods and skinheads) adopted as their own. Similar to how Doc Martens started as working class factory boots (yellow stitching denoted a safe steel toe boot for factory work), the Fred Perry shirts were also adopted by the working classes. Skinheads just haven't found a need to evolve their style much since those days...

I've always thought of it as more of a mod thing... if there's a skin wearing Fred Perry, I'm not worried. Not that I've seen such a thing more than once, mind.

Well the general rule was Fred Perry polo's and Ben Sherman dress shirts, Levi's and braces. Those brands were/are still pretty iconic in the subculture. The anti-Nazi and non-racist skins tended to dress the best.

sorry, didnt realize there were different varieties of skinheads. the problem is, when someone mentions the word "skinhead", majority of our society will associate that with racism.
