The medicine in the link differs from accutane; the article was comparing it to other drugs used to treat acne.
Hopefully this new drug is able to help many, I suffered from acne for several years, horrible disease.

I took Roche Accutain (sp), it was a few weeks or a month cycle I seem to recall... in 1998. I was living in NYC at the time. I had been seeing a dermatologist and had taken antibiotics and used prescription topical (since high-school) before resorting to this drug but it clearly was not going to clear up with age. At 26 I started reading about it again... (it was originally suggested to me in high-school by a top dermatologist).
My acne was severe - cystic and I was 26. I had run out of options and had been suffering for about 7 years from severe breakouts. When I say severe, I mean large cysts - really awful and severe since college. It hindered my social development, and certainly didn't help me professionally starting out. It was bad enough that it was a constant conversation (that I was too old for acne, etc.).
I had chapped lips and dry skin during the course of taking it. I needed to use lip balm constantly.
Immediately after taking it for the full term, my skin cleared up - it was amazing. It was like a new lease on life. Since then, on rare occasion, I will get a small cystic breakout (nothing like during my 20's)
I am happy to answer any questions for anyone considering this medication. I am now 36, and am unaware of any lasting side effects. I see a doctor annually, and have blood work done. It has never been a concern of any medial professional I have seen since that time.
Understandably its a big decision. I would encourage only severe acne sufferers to consider taking it.

Yup, I have a few more weeks left on the drug for me; no more acne! Just have to let the redness fade.

Accutane gave me your average problems of dry-skin and chapped lips, but I also did the treatment over the Winter so many ppl looked like this anyway. Summer came and my acne literally disappeared overnight. There were times when I questioned whether I should keep taking it because nothing was happening, but havining lived with Acne for 4 years I kept at it and it worked fine. I know lots of people who took it, they'll all fine too.
