Now if you'll excuse me while I slip on my KMW AWA's and get back to toasting marshmallows over the pile of factory-aged junk I spent enough on last year to buy a small cottage in Languedoc...

Seriously - if what you wear really means that much perhaps there is still time to find The Balance.

thank god i'm not the only sane one here.

Gotta journey the world in a hurry 'cause my attorney didn't put enough girls on the jury.

I've been following this discussion in this thread and I have to ask:

What does the supposed homosexuality of the A&F CEO have to do with anything?

Would you not buy their clothes if he were gay?

Would you think other people would not buy their clothes if they knew he was gay?

That's not the point. The A&F brand is built largely on the idealization pf young, nubile men. If said young nubile men were being idealized for the enjoyment by women their own age, that would be one thing, but if they're being idealized for the leering enjoyment of a 60-year-old man, that's quite another. It casts the whole A&F aesthetic in a creepy light. Of course, the reason to dislike Mike Jeffries isn't that he's gay (if in fact he is,) it's because he's a douche. He says a number of contemptible and creepy things in his Salon interview: http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2006/01/24/jeffries/

He's simply disturbing, and not in that redeeming Gothic pervert kind of way, but in a John Wayne Gacy kind of way.

Agreed.

Also, is it just me, or does Mike Jeffries look a little like he has Down Syndrome?

I was always reminded of that Mask kid:

And to think, he had surgery to look like that.

I, for one, am shocked at allegations that someone in the clothing industry might be gay.

Agreed: this Salon interview has a few points that bother me about Jeffries and A&F.

I especially like the interview's anecdote on page 1 about showing up "looking his age" and being offered a pair of flip-flops. Also, the guy has some views on sex that I would not want to hear from a 60-year old.

It's like L. Ron Hubbard decided to start a clothing store instead of a religion.

A&F killed Hemingway and now they're killing fashion...
