Are you and your partner DINKs?

It seems like we have a disproportionately high number of DINK (Dual income no kids) couples on this board. I someday aspire to be a DINK.

Personally, I would greatly enjoy being a DINK?

I would certainly enjoy being a DINK. When walking through the halls of my building, I sometimes here the bickering that goes on in the apartments of couples that have kids. No thanks. I want to work hard and come home to peace and quiet.

My fiancee and I will certainly be DINKs in the near future. Right now she's not working (unable due to immigration), but we'll be moving in together permanently this summer and she should be able to start working again soon after. As cute as kids can sometimes be, I much prefer being the cool uncle that occasionally buys ridiculous gifts and feeds the wee ones sugar before sending them home.

+1 Yes, enjoyable in small doses and you don't have to clean up after them. I'm too much of a kid myself to be able to handle more than that. That's the great advantage, you can toss them back to their folks when they misbehave.

I am one of those uncles revered by the kids at Christmas. (Which is doubly fun, as for many of the fanciful toys - I get one for them and one for myself!)
It usually requires enlisting one or two store clerks to assist in filling up additional shopping carts.

But - if you're the old fashioned sort that can manage well without subsidy by your lady, and let her play with her own account independently...

Does that make such a couple a "SINK" ?

I voted no. Children are a blessing. Especially after they have learned to wipe their own arse.

I hadn't even thought of that. Add another reason to the list of why i don't want kids any time soon.

I work two jobs and have no kids.... do I count? EDIT: I forgot, I do have a dog though. Is that a deduction or something?

If you're the sole earner with two jobs,

Could you be a Doink? [double income only, no kids?]

I haven't been a DINK since '85, but I can now proudly boast of two KIPPERS (Kids In Parents Pockets Eroding Retirement Savings).

Will likely be getting married in the next 1-1.5 years and honestly, the thought of how damned expensive kids are has me considering if I even want any.

I also don't relish how much extra work it would be. Me = selfish.

Not to worry - I'm sure some enterprising person(s) will make a fortune with an innovative "rent a kid" operation [in the legal sense!] by the hour, day, week or what have you. Maybe have an offshoot business - that you can rent to own?
