Hair: Pics of Neat and Tidy Styles of the 30's-50's

Hello!

I've coarse, thick, wavy hair, not unlike that in this picture (just add a little frizz and you'll have it): http://www.willishenry.com/c-48%20w%...20holloway.jpg

The same actor, in this picture, has the sort of cut I'd love: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Screenshot.jpg

Character and body on the top, but the sides and back quite neat and tidy. Trouble is, try as I might, I cannot seem to find any pictures in profile, or from the back, of such hairstyles online, and so have nothing to show my barber. The few I've found that were close had, unfortunately, the man wearing oil or brilliantine in his hair, so that it would not actually be a very good guide for my barber in judging thickness. The problem with the photo I have provided above is, obviously, that it is far too small.

So if anyone could please help me to find some pictures to show my barber, the help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried describing what I'm after before, but the stylists and barbers in my area seem too regimented by current trends in their practices to come close to what I'm after. Anything with the back neat and tidy like that would be a great help, but if the overall style were pictured, that would be absolutely perfect.

If this thread fails to get any results, I suppose I could track down the movie on DVD and try to take pictures of it myself.

In any case, thanks for reading.

So you want to wear a costume every day on your head?

Maybe it's too far off from what you want, but what do you think about James McAvoy's hair from Atonement as a reference?

The man in your original pics is likely using some antiqued product like "Hair lotion" or something. You might be able to find a modern equivalent in the so called ethnic section in drug stores or salons. Expect an odd smell and greasy pillow.

I haven't the slightest idea what either of you are talking about when you refer to something unusual about the hair in the pictures. I don't know much about hair products, having experience with hardly anything beyond shampoo, conditioner, and ethnic hair oil, but I posted the first picture simply because it appears rather similar to how my hair is naturally. As I said, add a little more frizz, and that's basically my hair. I use the ethnic hair oil to mitigate the aforementioned frizz. I've never used anything to "style" my hair, apart from a brief infatuation with slick gel during middle school.

As for the second picture, it's so small that I can't make out any detail whatever - only the basic outline, mainly that it's tidy in the back but there's body on the top.

No need to be snarky about the pictures. I can't see that he's done anything to it - partly as a result of my hair being naturally similar and partly as a result of my being ignorant of hair products. If you could take the time to elaborate on what you mean, I think we could easily establish that there's just been a misunderstanding.

In any case, Reggs, thank you very much for the picture, but my hair is so much more wavy than Mister McAvoy's that I couldn't be confident in my barber working from that picture. Additionally, one cannot really make out the back in that specific picture, but it does seem a bit shaggy at the nape.

Anyway, thank you both for having read my post and taken the time to write replies.
