And i stand by my statement.

Healthy well balanced meals is the way to go, carrying around a little book your whole life trying to add up you "points" should be left to golf players.

also there is a vast difference with being "skinny" and "healthy" I know alot of people who have great bodies but are lacking in energy and always get sick, because they don't eat a balanced diet.

But go ahead and call me names for my opinion.... i don't mind.

I think you missed the point. And to count 'points' is not to count calories.

I see. I think we agree that "calorie counting" works; it's just not fool-proof.

Your vocabulary astounds me Johnny_5.
The creativity and layout of your insults, well I just can't compete.
Not to mention your lengthy explanations clearly debunking my point of view.

Rymaiorano, I was implying to the number that is applied to the amont of calories in food, trying to make fun of having a little book coulding up that number of calories in ones food and hoping to keep is under a certain number each day. I say this because I know people who do it, I'm makeing fun of the exteams of calorie counting. Points = number, calouries = number. Get the link I'm makeing here?

Whacked, thank you for actualy reading my post, your obviously the first. My hat is off to you.

For anyone else who didn't quite get my point, Calories are not the be all the end all, you can't just calorie count and expect to lose weight, but by all means if it's working for you thats fine.

When I read 'points' I immediately think Weight Watchers or the like... and yes, I scoff at systems like this as well. But this type of system works for many many people.

I questioned you because initially the argument was over calorie counting and then you used the word 'point' which again means quite a bit more.

And I realize that calorie counting can be a waste of time... like if I decide to eat 2500 calories in donuts. But if I trust my knowledge of nutrition, and merely pay attention to caloric intake then it is not a waste of time.

The opposite of this, and why I said you missed the point of everyone calling you out, is what you said about eating healthy and lots of produce. This on the whole is true, obviously, but I can eat 6500 calories of healthy food and produce - which is going to get me nowhere. Point merely being you have to pay attention to the amount of food, whether by calories, even 'points' or merely being aware.

I was just explaining what I ment by "points"

I can see why people pay attention to the calories that they eat within a day. but some people get too cought up in "calories" and not pa enought attention to what they are actualy eating.

It's far to easy to misunderstand a typed comment.

Plus I was a bit reved up from Johnny_5's harmfull comments *tear*

People can lose weight eating little amount of what's considered to be unhealthy as well.

'Healthy' is a silly term because different people have different health needs. Most would consider whole grains to be healthy, but a diet rich in whole grains will kill those with renal disease.

Exactly, the reason I will not say "Eat x and y, this many times a day and not after 5 pm" because people are different.

I use "healthy" as a flexable term, as to ones personal needs, no what someone wrote in a diet book.

That's ultimately useless advice.

'Eat what's healthy' is such a blanket statement that it has no relevance.

The point I'm tyring to get across is people should be more concerned with if they are healthy, as in body wise, do they have enough vitimins, energy and so on rather than their waist size and ending up with issues with their internal organs cause all they ate was lettuce because it was low in calories.

This was why i said a well balanced healthy diet, meaning not excluding food gorups which people tend to love to do when they are trying to lose weight.

I'm growing rather tied of defending and defining what the word "healthy" means and in what context i ment it in.

I'll stick by my definition and you by yours.
My main beef was with people critiquing me without justifying a reason.

As far as I know, and I've been around for a bit, no one here does that. No one "carry around a little book your whole life trying to add up points" either.

So, what's your point again?

I agree with Mame's main point... but it all depends on what you want to get out of this. If you just want to be healthier and have a better sense of well being, and also be fit; I think just eating a balanced, moderate, diet consisting of good whole foods is the way to go. It's a lifestyle, not a diet. It's long term, as in the rest of your life. On the other hand, if you are actively seeking to lose weight, than you need to cut, no two ways about that. You can mark it down in a little book or not, depends if you're on a deadline or if you're really dedicated. If you're new to weight loss/working out; using a book to track your progress, how much your lifting/running and eating is a really good plan. I did that when I was new to it back in college. Speaking for myself, I couldn't imagine a life where I always needed to conscientiously count calories and think about everything I'm eating all the time... that's no way to live. Developing good habits is the way to go.

You can't just redefine words like that. Lifestyles have never been diets. Diets are what organisms eat.

I wouldn't call it a waste of time, but it isn't for everyone.

I don't need to worry about calorie counting because I get full very easily, so if I eat healthy and balanced, I get full on those low calorie-dense foods and don't have to break out the calculator between meals to see what I'm allowed to eat next. It just works.
