Boiled peanut business

I have been contemplating opening a boiled peanut stand in an urban area in the North East possibly even Philadelphia or Manhattan. I have always enjoyed boiled peanuts when I had to travel down south with my previous employer and due to the complete lack of boiled peanut vendors in my target area I feel that it could be a very successful business if situated in the right location. If you live in the North East would you consider trying boiled peanuts if you saw a stand offering them at a reasonable price and in a hygienic manner? Have you tried boiled peanuts previously and did you appreciate their taste level?

I like boiled peanuts a lot but then again I am from Georgia.

I think this might be a cool novelty for NYC but you have to get the "brine" just right or they don't taste as good.

Why would you boil a peanut? Sorry, but in th NE I think roasted would win out. We like roasting things up here. I think you'd need a gimmick, or the giving away of many samples.

I love boiled peanuts, especially on a cold, misty day. They have to be warm, though.

They take on a potato like consistency when boiled and taste very different, better imho. You have to experience them to understand.

I have a cruel obsession with boiled peanuts.

I was born and raised on them in South Carolina. There was a boiled peanut stand at every gas station and corner. $2 for a paper sandwich bag full. I'd easily eat two bags at a time.

Now in Georgia, there's only one place within reasonable distance that sells them, and they're roughly $4-4.50 a bag of the same size. I bet a stand would go over great in New York.

Boiled peanuts are up in the realm of foods such as bacon and hot wings.

I dont know what globetrotter is talking about, but boiled peanuts are great. I don't know how to do it (boil peanuts with salt?), but when done with a fresh batch? Game over.

Definitely more than just salt, I imagine you're boiling them in some kind of a stock w/ a ton of herbs/spices to get them to that level of tastiness. I remember buying some on the side of the road in Florida over ten years ago. Spicy boiled peanuts are amazing.
