Help me make some changes? [Hair]

First off, this is my first post so nice to meet you all!

I've had the same style for a really long time, and I'm starting to get tired of it. My hair has always been long and more recently it's decided to get really wavy on the ends. I can't help but think it looks a little..."gay" for lack of a better word.

So I'm going to get my hair cut on Saturday, and I'm seriously considering doing something completely different, shorter. Problem is, I've never done this and I'm worried that I'll end up with something that just doesn't fit me. I think my forehead is longer than average, my ears are low/big, and I'm just not sure how those things would affect a different style. I'm not happy with it the way it is now though, so I guess I need to try something.

Some more advice I could use is on facial hair. All I've managed to keep up are sideburns, but I could grow a full beard in about a week. I just don't how I should grow it or what I need to do to maintain it.

Your forehead doesn't look big. In fact, you probably should show more of it, to lessen the roundness of the face. For the same reason, the haircut should be more squared. Those minor changes are low-risk.

Awesome. Exactly the kind of input I'm looking for. Thank you!

i say cut it shorter and do somewhat of a part. like youre doing now kind of but with shorter hair. i.e. back in the day, slash shorter on the sides modernized look.
if that makes any sence to you.

You look like you have a helmet on. Tell your hairdresser to use thinning shears and do your hair the day before you go to bed. Thick hair tends to be flatter and look better the day after styling.

I'd try going really short (buzz) and then grow it out from there.

I'm no hair stylist, but I'd go with the part suggested above. It looks like you would part your hair to the right, and I'd go with having the left side trimmed shorter than right. Not much, but enough to notice. It doesn't have to be symmetrical. Texturize your bangs a little. Wavy ends can be rather dramatic, and in a good way, so you might not want to take all your bangs back. You've got great potential! Whenever I want something new, I'm also not afraid to bring in photos. I've taken a couple things from VMan over the years. A decent stylist should be able to make it happen. Don't forget product, though. Have the stylist help you.

Follow up: http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...p1010110-1.jpg It's taken some getting used to, but if nothing else I'm happy with the change in length. I obviously don't know what I'm doing with styling. I was encouraged to use Redken Rewind Paste. Thanks for all of the input! Next step, facial hair tips!?

so now you have a wet mop on your head! do something with it! shave it shorter on the sides and style the top.

Buzz it & see how you look. You can always grow it out. You're a nice looking guy. Remember, change is good.

Well I can't really go and get it cut again... Would better styling help? Wax doesn't do much, just ends up looking like a shorter, less bulky version of what it was before. I'm trying to use this paste, but I've never done it before. Wash and retry = Just looks messy, and not the good kind. Maybe my hair just doesn't know what to do with itself since it's finally been changed.

I think that the cut is a big improvement.

The thing that took me years to figure out on my own... stop washing it so often. Unless you have abnormally oily hair (you'd know), you don't need to shampoo and condition everyday. Washing your hair strips your hair of it's natural oils and slightly dirty hair is way more rock'n'roll and cool looking.

My hair is about the same length as yours and it takes about 3 days of not washing and adding product before it looks its best.

For the record, I shower everyday. I'm just talking about the shampoo/conditioner part. I only wash my hair once a week.

it looks like someone wiped the floor and then threw the mop on your head. cut the sides with like a 4, do the top shorter and do something with it!!

I think the new hairstyle is a big improvement, but I'm a NOOB.

Go to a Gentlemen's barber and ask them to cut your hair with a part. You can probably find one in any decent sized city in case there is none in yours.
