Yeah I've been to the Drake a couple of times. Nice place, but I don't understand what all the hype is about.

Haven't been in awhile. I remember the sound being better in the covered seating area. But I like the freedom of moving around out in the lawn and not having to stick to your seat.

I usually frequent Catbirds, Boondocks and Poison Girl on Westheimer - cheap drinks and plenty of cute, approachable scene girls.

If you're going to see a show there, I would recommend getting seats if you can. The lawn is way back and it's general admission; I feel that if you're going to a show, you want to be as close to the front as possible, and that's just not possible with lawn tickets. I saw Radiohead there several years ago and we had one seat ticket and the rest lawn tickets. We would take turns going up to the seated area because the experience there was so much better than up on the lawn. There were not many people sitting, for the record.

^ You will fail miserably if you are looking for that stuff.

Houston has nothing special.

I met the owners of the new store, Mortar ( www.shopmortar.com ) this past January. Nice people, though they seemed to disapprove of jiujitsu practice in a showroom. They seem to carry some pretty decent brands too, with a fair bit of it (Triple Works, for example,) on sale. I think that they moved to a larger space, so you might want to call ahead to make sure you are going to the right place.

Mortar has moved to a new location; however, it is literally across the street from the old one. They are at 1911 Westheimer. I met the owners a while back while walking past the store. Really nice people, I hate that I haven't been able to make it back. Check out Billy Reid in the Galleria too...shameless plug (work there)
