Suede in the rain

This is probably a no brainer but if there's any chance of rain I avoid wearing suede shoes. Am I being too cautious? Is suede just as resistant to rainwater as regular leather?

Some treated suedes stand up to the weather just fine, for instance the shoes made by J P Tod. Regular suede used to make dress shoes does not. Some guys will treat the shoes themselves, and I have heard that this works like a charm. I have not tried it, however.

Untreated buckskin will stand up to drops, but doesn't like a downpour. After, let them dry and give them a brushing with a suede brush. Will
