What do you guys think of the pottery barn photographer's lamp? Is $200 worth it or am I being taken for a ride? Any viable alternatives? Thanks.

I've seen those things. We were going to buy some, but after asking a friend who is really in to old film cameras, we found a viable alternative. Go to a camera shop that sells old equipment. They'll likely have the real thing for giveaway prices.

I like but prefer the metal finishing over the colored ones.

Do you really want task lighting in the form of a lamp, or do you need a more traditional lamp? I've noticed that many of PB's metal lamps do a very poor job spreading light around.

Well I as looking for another light source in my apartment and I thought the task lamp would make a nice addition. I decided in the end to pull the trigger since couldn't easily find an alternative that I liked.

But I did find an article about similar lamps.
