I haven't been to Taipei since 2002 so can't give too much advice about places as they change very frequently, but check out the local dept stores, there should be some walk-up shopping districts nearby that can help you find what you need, don't suppose you speak Mandarin?

I lived in Taipei for a while, but not since 99. It wouldn't be the first place I'd look for a camera. Cheap trinkets and great food? Sure. Clothes or high-end electronics? Go to Hong Kong. My only recommendation would be the Sogo (there are a couple). Big department store, you may find something there. And the pharmacies will sell you anything. And try Ding Tai Fung for the best dumplings you will ever have.

I'd do a search... Ding Tai Fung is not too bad, there are better places to get dumplings though (mostly small restaurants), there are a couple more Ding Tai Fungs in various places, by the way (there's one in Arcadia, CA).
