To the OP, smoking full bodied cigars at first will only make you sick. There are some exceptional lighter smokes, particularly Oliva, Serie V . Tatuaje? Padilla? Common, lads, these are not light smokes but any means, and there is a rumor that Don Pepin is mixing some Cuban tobacco to make these more flavorful.

Tatuaje is a full bodied smoke. It'll knock someone on their ass. That said, I tend to prefer much darker smokes. The Padron anniverario series is one of my all time favorites.

General Cigar does some of the "Cuban-named", such as Cohiba, Bolivar, and Hoyo de Monterrey. La Gloria Cubanas are decent for a daily "go-to" smoke, and Partagas Decadas and 160s are interesting, if underpriced.

Romeo y Julieta, Montecristo, and H Upmann, are made by Altadis, who are 50% owners of Habanos S.A..

Most all of Altadis' non-Cuban offerings are wholly underwhelming.

Remember your P's... you cant go wrong with anything blended by Pepin or Padron. Maybe I will even throw Padillia in there...maybe.
Padilla Miami 8/11, 1932 Signatures and 1948s are blended by Don Pepin.

Litto Gomez is another blender who always puts out great product.

Not saying you are wrong, just that this statement seems a little strong..

I just haven't had anything that has really caught my eye with those...

My first cigar was a Davidoff. It was a really nice first go--easy burner, very balanced tasting without being flavorless, solidly built. Not too boring and a good standby, although I rarely feel like picking one up.

Speaking of boring, Zino Platinums are awful. If it were my first cigar, I wouldn't have felt like ever trying a second.

yeah zino platinums are the biggest waste of money ever...actually i've found that most non cubans that go for that kind of money tend to be some of the worst/blandest smokes. Best NCs ive had were all in the $10 and below range.

What about Padrons? I like the 1964s.

The Maduro's are only $10 and change... at least where I get them.

Fantastic smoke though.

Padron 64s are OK...not brilliant. For the price of those, VSGs, or OpusX, i'd rather go with my Cuban staples (actually i think here in hong kong an opus x will run you more than most cubans, even Cohibas aren't that expensive unless they're EL or Maduro 5)

I'll have to try these, my first impression of the LG line was "fresh Opus X", i.e. strong nicotine kick, bitter, lacking in flavor, in need of age.

I love a well aged Opus, but didn't really feel motivated to age any LGs. I get my fix on the Ligero Oscuros, Double Ligero Chiselitos and Lanceros.

OMG i'm smoking a Partagas Mille Fleur now, which is pretty much as low as one can go for a decent Cuban smoke (these are like $5 smokes), and the one i am smoking is fan-fucking-tastic. This is a 95 point smoke...they aren't always like this, but hot damn. BTW this is an excellent introduction smoke as well.

I typically enjoy mainstream cigars like Macanudo, Avo, H Upmann and Davidoff. I would say they are all good for the beginner.
