I'm not a big Twitter user but I think it is very powerful, as do some smart people:

Biz Stone just announced on the official Twitter blog that Twitter closed a third round of funding led by Benchmark and Institutional Venture Partners last night. We have confirmation from IVP that the round was $35 million, and that Union Square Ventures and Spark Capital also participated. The news gels with our report last month that Twitter was raising a new round at around a $250 million valuation following Facebook’s failed attempt to acquire the company, with IVP as one of the leading investors.

Benchmark Capital is a heavy hitter and almost every company they've invested in has been a home run. It will be very interesting to see how Twitter evolves to become more mainstream and start making some money

I have no need for myspace or facebook but I thought the Twitter Idea was better because it was accessible almost 100% of the time.

That being said I feel that myspace and facebook will soon have similar services and twitter will go away.

Or just buy a domain and wait....the technologies are getting better and better and soon you will be able to do everything on your own site easily and "plug into other" sites rather easily.

Can't you do this through your website?

"You and I don't have much time together at events like these," he says, "and yet, given how much we need each other, it's probably good for you to get a sense of how I'll lead in my role as CSA. Unlike with Bill, you haven't had 30 years to get to know what makes me tick." To remedy that, he offers some quick bites about his passions"”in a style suggested, he says, by the 140-character format in Twitter. (The fact that he references Twitter and not a Microsoft product is a statement in itself.)

I love software, because if you can imagine something, you can build it.

I love Windows, because without it there would be no PC. There would be no PC developers. There might not even be a Web.

I love the ubiquitous Web because of the connections that it opened up.

I love competition. But when we're behind a competitor, I hate it when we find ourselves just chasing their taillights.

Twitter goes directly to the mobile phone with an sms text message. Not everyone, (especially mothers of families which is my main shopping demographic) is connected to their email 24/7, almost everyone carries their phones around always. Its also super easy for us to implement vs an email which has to be aesthetically pleasing and takes time to create.

Items for my kids boutique starts arriving Late November and ends March 31, with items coming in almost every day between Jan-2 and 3-31. Broadcast texting via Twitter is certainly the best and quickest way to keep local customers in the loop.

I've consolidated lately.

Had myspace for a few years and have now all but abandoned it in favor of Facebook which IMO is a much cleaner and easier to use app. I've also had better luck connecting with people on it.

Linked in is good because it separates the business from the personal and should be kept as such.

Twitter to me is pointless. It's like if you took a blog but just shortened it to a title instead of the actual content. Plus I don't want to know what everyone is doing every second of the day, nor do I want to write what I am doing every second of the day. To me it's very similar to when people change their status on Facebook every hour and say what they are doing...

I joined Twitter this last weekend, just to check it out. My FB, I keep pretty damn private, and use it for people I already know IRL. So my goal with Twitter was to keep it pretty clear of identifying data, and focus on just random updates as well as following some wine Tweeters. I'm blocking lots of people trying to add me, as it seems there's bots that just try and get you to follow people.

It's interesting so far. I'll give it another week.
