Is it possible to stay slim as a "normal" freshman in college? - Page 3

Can't stress enough - alcohol serving size. If you're using the calories in a shot to rationalize having a few drinks chased w/ some beers, recognize that college drinks are most definitely not one shot. Imagine a solo cup w/ ice, fill halfway with rum and the rest with diet coke. Even then you're getting hundreds of calories in "just one" drink.

I can't imagine hangovers are good for the exercise routine, either.

Okay, for a bit of a different perspective, I would say don't worry too much about the drinking or having a flat stomach in college. There'll be few other times in your life when you can get away with getting sloppy on a Tuesday, so as long as it's not really screwing up your classwork, I say go for it.

You do sound like you eat way too much, though; you don't have to count calories or get really scientific about it, just have a general sense of how much you're taking in, and try to keep it to a reasonable level. Lift often and hard, try and get a decent amount of protein, and do some running, swimming or biking when you can. You'll be fine. You may not be too cut, but you'll look pretty fit, which is what I think most people, and especially college students, should be satisfied with.

Eat cereal over bacon and eggs, late night snacks are okay. Drink less. It's REALLY bad for your body to drink heaps and heaps. I think you'll find if you cut out a 1/3 to 1/2 of your alcohol consumption you'll have just as much fun, throw up and wake up feeling like shit less (assuming you're not one of these lucky bastards who doesn't get hangovers) and your body will thank you by not ejecting your liver at age 40, and by not getting tubby. If you find that you don't have fun unless you're really pissed, perhaps the things you're doing just aren't that fun. As others have said, don't think "I'll lose it again later." It's much harder to get it back than it is to keep it. Plus, once you put on fat you actually have it forever. The fat cells remain, even if you loose weight - they are just emptied of fat. The reason this is bad is that it makes it much easier to put weight back on again, because rather than your body having to make more fat cells, it just fills up the ones you already have.

Same thread different title.

Smaller, more frequent meals. Cut back on the alcohol. Workout more.

I lived in the dorms for two years. The first was consumed by WoW, yes I'm a loser , lack of exercise and poor eating. I gained weight as would be expected. The second I made sure I had healthy snacks in my dorm, peanut butter, canned tuna, milk, etc. Getting a mini-fridge and using it appropriately helps out a lot. I know at our freshman dining hall we were able to do takeout so you can store food for later if you don't want to buy stuff with your own money. I managed to get a pretty decent body back so what I was looking for at that point in time. As for alcohol, I only drink every once in a while, it's not required to have fun at college, or any other part of life, and if you think it is you need to work on your confidence and personality.

It all comes down to priorities, if you want to party all the time and drink then do that. If you want to have the body make the sacrifices in those things that interfere with it.

Don't eat much during the day, then at night when your stomach starts growling, quell it with loads of alcohol and junk food. Great Success.

Do simple things like take the stairs instead of the elevator and eat until you're satisfied, not until you're stuffed.

That's all I did my freshman year and inactivity and alchohol didn't add a pound to me. Plus I'd burn through at least a case of Coke in a week and consume Domino's pizza like there was no tomorrow.

So long as you remain decently active and pay some attention to how much you eat, you'll be fine.

Because clearly everyone has exactly the same metabolism...
