What kind of styling product to achieve this look?

Looking to get my hair lookin like this. Which product would be best for this?( I.E. gel, paste, wax, etc?)
P.S. I have very thick hair, even w/ thinning shears, if that matters at all. thanks

I'm no expert, but I'd either guess gel or spray on the first guy, it looks like his hair is hard. For the second guy, it looks softer, so I'd guess wax or paste.
