I'm in the market to buy a new car, have about $20k to play with, but not auto savvy in the least. I want something that is modern in design, urbane, small and fuel efficient. Nissan 350z and BMW Z4 are both hot but beyond my budget.

assuming you are a man, you need to become auto savvy, even if you're gay.

Lexus IS300

I would stay away from any BMW, Audi or Benz for $10k... it's going to be pretty rough or pretty old.

dtmt- I agree with the IS300, but it would be tough to get one for 10k without some crazy mileage on it. Although, I guess they're getting older so prices are going down.

I'd also check out the Acura TSX as a possible option.

Both of those are definite options for myself, though I'm personally leaning toward an IS300 w/ manual transmission at the moment. They're the perfect car, except for their greed at the gas pump relative to their size.

wayfarer, i read your first post as asking for advice on a new car, as in a 2008 model.

also look into a toyota echo. they are extremely dependable (timing chain instead of timing belt, tune-ups every 100k miles) and the gas mileage is about as good as it gets without being a hybrid.

.

I meant "new to me." Pardon the error on my part for phrasing it poorly. Haha

VW Golf or Mini Cooper, don't do Civics, they're bad for your image. A Civic these days is a car for juvenile delinquents.

You are asking for quite a bit with a 10k price tag! Used Corolla? Saturn? They have some less ugly models these days. I think the previously mentioned Echo might be a good choice too. Also as mentioned, a used Civic?
