...have Scholte make his coats in the interwar period, but his trousers made in new York?

1. Is this a myth or fact?

2. If fact, who made his trousers?

3. Why would he do this? He had reasons...what were they?

I have also hear this, and the reason I have heard is that he favored belts over braces.

Yeah, I've heard that he had his pants made in the USA.

From a NY Times story:

'Ms. Taylor said the Duke so disliked suspenders that he invented pants with elastic in the waist. He didn't like buttons on pants, so insisted on zippers, which were large and primitive in the 1930's. He preferred buttons on the sleeves of his jackets -- four, to be precise. He always wore cuffs on his trousers, which infuriated his father. After World War II broke out, he had his pants made in the United States because textiles were rationed in England and cuffs required extra fabric."

Here's the full NYT story.

Did the fact that Cary Grant preferred wearing female underwear:

1. Add to his masculine charisma as a man unconcerned with convention when style was served? ...or...

2. Reaffirm he was English and not really American?

Question: Have the clothing fora jumped the shark once we begin discussing the "myth" of where a long dead British prince had his pants tailored?

Not that I'm above such discussions...I'm certain my own questions are at least as esoteric...I'm just saying...

The greatest American statement that I know:

"Thanks, King."

That, and whenever I read Lincoln, gets me teary-eyed.

Some more info.
...made for the Duke of Windsor by H. Harris, a New York-based tailor whose apprenticeship was served in London. The Duke began to have his trousers tailored by Harris while he was Governor of the Bahamas during the Second World War. As he explained, "I gave him a pair of my old London trousers and he copied them admirably. Since then, I have had my trousers made in New York and my jackets in London, an international compromise which the Duchess aptly describes as 'pants across the sea.'"
