Kettlebells? - Page 14

Do you do 2handed swings or 1handed, alternating hands at the top?

Think it would be worthwhile to get the kettlebell handles you can put standard plates on? Or are solid KBs the way to go since they are obviously more sturdy?

Both. I'm surprisingly sore in all the right places this morning.

it would totally fuck up 90% of the exercises.

Thanks Flam, I appreciate your help.

I've decided that for the moment, I just can't justify spending more on exercise equipment. I have a bench and set of Powerblock dumbbells at home, ab wheel, pushup handles, and a bunch of other miscellaneous crap I can't think of ATM. And I also have free access to my apartment complex gym with has a squat rack that is always free for me to use. (People gravitate to the bench press so the rack is always idling).

I think I'm going to stick with a 5x5 barbell/dumbbell routine for now and get my diet in check.

Once I get up to an acceptable weight I'm happy with, I feel I may be able to downgrade equipment by selling my powerblocks and bench on craigslist or greensheet, then replace that with a more space saving 16kg KB.

Well, I guess I'd have to keep the bench anyway, since I'm sure there must be pressing exercises to do w/ KBs too.

Got a 25 lb one from Academy yesterday. I would have gotten 35 but I couldn't press it over my head in the store, so I got the next one down. Lot of fun, but woke up this morning with welts on my forearms. A little googling told me I was doing the clean wrong, banging the KB against my forearm. This wasn't the case though, my clean looks pretty good and I get the KB up into the rack position pretty lightly, no banging or anything....I realize my problem is the rack position itself. Hand placement has the bell resting right against the back of my bony forearm, and just being there is slowly bruising me. Gotta work on that, from those vids posted, it looks like the bell should be resting on my bicep in that position.

dont hurt yourself building your form - try to take a class or observe somebody who knows what they are doing

Managed to fix my form on the cleans. I was doing it very sloppy. Had my hand placement all wrong, and wasn't bringing my elbow close enough to my body, which meant the bell banged and rested against my forearm on every clean, eventually bruising them pretty good.

Downloaded Pavel's ETK video. Great information, and he explains the moves better than any youtube video I've seen, but don't be offended...this guy is about as Russian as my ass. I don't think too many Russians fake American accents during the middle of their lifts, or talk about "metrosexual hand creams" toward the end of the videos, in an American accent as well heh.

As the video went on, and he got more tired from the exercises, he dropped that fake Russian accent more and more lol.

Fixed my clean and press form, am loving this now. I feel that the 25 lb bell I got may be a bit light for some exercises, but since I can't overhead press anything heavier than that for more than one rep, that's obviously the right weight choice.

On a side note, I have never slept so well as I have been since I started using this. I am going to do 100 swings a day from now on if only for the deep sleep it brings that night.

Don't be a pussy. Since you're working with such a light ass bell, do at least 300 swings.

I used to do 500+ rep complex with the 35 pounder before. Now it's more like 100+ with dual 53s.. You do grow into it pretty fast.

Gotta work my way up to 300. Did 50 night before last, and 100 last night. Gonna try for 150 tonight, or as many above 100 as I can do.
