Kettlebells? - Page 13

Start with a 16. Everyone has trouble with turkish getups, it's something you will fix with enough time. I was blown away at how hard things were with just a 16kg before, but you get used to it and move up quickly. I've gone 16 ==> 24 ==> 2x24

Being that my goal is to gain size (like I said, very underweight here), will the KBs help with this, or should I stick with barbell and dumbbells?

They won't help any more with size than barbell and dumbells will. A barbell + starting strength + tons of food would probably be the best way to gain size quickly. Of course, if you are sort of still at the beginner stage, anything will help. Kettlebells make you lean and mean, and as far as serious size gains.. Well, maybe with heavy doubles.

I'm already lean and quite mean, I just want the body to go with it heh!

Hrmm, deadlifts with such little weight makes little sense to me, I assume it's just to tax the grip even more?

Since everyone is sharing KB workouts here are two of my "favorites":

"Jonesworthy"
Air Squat-/-KB Swing(1.5 pood=24KG=53#)-/-Pullup

80/40/20
64/32/16
48/24/12
32/16/8
24/12/6
12/6/3

Totals: 260/130/65 = 455 reps for time

"Kettlebell Gone Bad"
Works just like "Fight Gone Bad"
1 Minute of work with each exercise followed by a 1 minute rest between rounds
3 Rounds for reps

Exercises are:
KB Swing
KB Clean and Press
KB Step Up to 24" box
KB Thruster
KB TGU

The KB step up is executed with the KBs in the racked position and should be held thusly the entire minute. Alternate hands with the TGUs. I do the swings with a 1.5 pood and everything else with a 1 pood.

Never seen thrusters before, interesting.

This guy's form is pretty good, I might have my feet a bit wider in the squat but overall good form. Make sure you don't arch your back, and make sure to push your head through your arms, just like on a push press.

What's that cracking sound when he's going down? Sounds like his knees.

Those workouts look great Invicta, thanks a lot! After the talk of 500 swings, I was going to give it a try today with my 1.5pd. Hands opened up around 250 reps and ended up stopping at 300. My hands were still messed up from a muscle up/snatch workout I did last week and today didn't help.

500 with a 1.5 would be tough. I know I can do that with a pood, but 1.5 gets you a bit fucked along the way. Although I do kind of want to try now.

I'll give it another go when my hands are 100%. For me, grip is the limiting factor.

With a 1.5 my forearms would probably go before the grip.. Although I don't know, I might wanna try it.

Wow, those swings sure pinpointed my weakness. Around 300 swings with a 53# my left forearm and wrist/grip started to go. I had a pretty bad injury there last summer, guess it still needs work. Oops. Could have probably gotten to 400, but decided to quit while I was ahead. Also my left hip started going a little and I had to focus to keep it in check. Great fun though.

What was your time at 300? 400? I am going to try this tomorrow AM.

Also, are you doing Russian swings or American swings?

As I was still recovering from my weekend, I didn't time myself, but I do hardstyle, and I do it pretty slowly when with a heavier weight to get all my locks in order and to control the weight.

Also, I just did 300. With a 16kg, I can go almost nonstop, 24 is a bit more of an issue.
