I think that if they can make a good Chicken Tikka Masala, then the rest of their food is bound to be good.

Perspective.

actually, question - have you ever had a biryani in india? you might simply not ever had a god biryani

Biryani was brought into India/Pakistan by travelling Muslims, and the dish is found all over the middle east as well as Sri Lanka and varies regionally. And yes, I did have Biryani in India. Loads better than any other Biryani I've ever had. The only restaurant I can think of in my locale that comes close is the Bismillah I mentioned. Even tops my grandma's Biryani and that's difficult for me to admit.

It doesn't say anything about my perspective.

Unlike you I did not try and make a definitive statement about either dish, and in fact offered no previous opinion or perspective.

But a dish that was brought to a country where it was embraced and adopted into the food that people actually eat (biryani) is entirely different than a bastardized dish developed in a foreign country (tikka masala).

tandoori chicken is terrible. seekh kebab is good. chicken mekhani(spelling?) is bad, ghee is gross. dosa and mint chutney are good. poori is good. upamav(spelling?) and putta(spelling?) are good. ooniappam is good. parotha and chapati can be good. bengal and kerala fish are good. saag paneer and bengan bartha(spelling?) are scary. oily biryani sucks. beef samosas can be very good. fish cutlets are good. gulab jamun, carrot halwa and jelabi ard bad.

biryani, in the middle east, comes from india - the middle east is full of indians and indian resteraunts. you can actually get a pretty good biryani in much of the middle east. biryanini was influenced by similar rice dishes that you find in iran and the middle east, but they are not biryanis.

if you ever get to hyderabad, there is a place called "paradise" that is the ground zero for biryani. once you have that, you can't go back.
