Santa Cruz city is almost always sunny. Pleasure Point is the turn. South/East of that toward Aptos, the fog lingers. Moss Landing is foggy most of the time.

How cold is the water? My cousins were hardcore windsurfers and would do it in lake superior starting as soon as the ice melted and right in to october/november. Personally, I thought the water was freezing in June. I've had nasty experiences in the water, but I still love the ocean.

I went at night in October. It isn't so bad in the summer when you take a break and get out and it might be warm out. But going numb in the water then getting out and still having it be freezing cold with the wind blowing... no thanks. As you can see, not a ton of places in the US with warm water:

There were blues out there too but I was too slow to get a picture. Humpbacks are everywhere, dozens up at any given time.

In retrospect I should have taken pics of the porpoises and bottlenoses but I've seen them so many times I didn't care. I suppose I could say that about the sea lions but I still took a pic. I just love sea lions, even if one tried to kill me once.

Great photos, Manton. Although that last one sort of freaked me out. Looks a little like "the man in the gray suit" if you know what I mean.

Enjoying the California weather this past week?

Yeah, it was apparently 103 in NYC yesterday and the Today Show people fried an egg on the sidewalk. High in Santa Cruz was ... 73.

BTW, Parker, there is no surf here and has not been for a week. Really sucky little wading pool waves. Even Steamers was totally dead yesterday. Pleasure Point, which I can see from my parents' yard (or whatever you call it), also looks terrible.

What is most surprising though is that there are surfers trying to surf Seacliff Beach, which is a truly lousy surf spot (though a nice beach). They are out there right now, at least 20 of them. Desperate, I guess. When I was a kid, you never, ever saw them out here.

OK manton, I'm officially jealous.

Note to self: Plan a vacation out of this sweltering hell-hole next summer.

There are reasons I love the Pacific coast. Swimming in the ocean isn't one of them.

The sea life is, though. I love the photos.

Yeah, it's been flat for a week now. Even at Ocean Beach. Surfers gotta get their fix though. Sometimes just bobbing around in the water is worth suiting up for.

Pleasure Point is one of my favorite spots. Haven't been in a few years though. Really beautiful location.

On my way for a day trip with the family. Stupid hippies don't allow dogs.

If I see you Manton, I'll be sure to say hi.
Me: Bushy batshit crazy mountain libertotarihippie wearing selvedge and white canvas shoes.
You: Lurking rethuglican in California Tuxedo pondering eminent doom.

I already left but there were dogs everywhere. What hippies don't allow dogs? Half the hippies in Santa Cruz are dogs.

Beautiful pictures Manton, especially those on the first page. Not sure how I missed these the first time around, but thanks for bumping with the new ones..
