I'm trying to make the move to a digital library. Please recommend a FLAC converter with an easy user interface.

Thanks, NCT

If you want to go from CD to FLAC, foobar2000 is very easy to use.

It sometimes has problems with CDs that have 99 tracks, so you might want a copy of EAC around as a backup.

Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is the standard for the audiophile and computer savvy crowd.

BTW, unless you are converting from Apple Lossless, WMA Lossless, WAVE, redbook CD, or other lossless formats, it is pointless to convert files to FLAC.

EAC is what I tend to use.

You also say FLAC sucks and that you only use Shorten compressed files.

Not sure why you say this -- I converted all my CDs to FLAC with EAC in order to make them available on a hard-drive for use with Slimserver. Are you saying this was not the right way to go?

I'm in the process of performing a similar task starting with my classical and opera CDs. It's time consuming but more convenient in the long run.

Since your source material was CD it makes sense to compress with FLAC. If your source material is in a lossy compressed format, such as MP3, then converting that to FLAC is pretty silly.

OK. Can EAC (or some other similar program) convert FLAC to MP3? I like the FLAC, but the number of players that support it are limited.

No idea, I've never used EAC.
