Minot, North Dakota - ?

So, this is where The Man has decided the wife and I will spend the next 4 years. Anyone want to tell me what to expect in terms of 'scene'/goings-on/etc?

Winnipeg is only 6 hours from there, I suppose that is something.

Oh man, why not minot? I lived there for 2 years or so as a teenager and hated every bit of it. My dad was planning on staying in the military longer I think, but after minot he wanted out ASAP (this was after 20 years or so). There are no scenes, no nightlife, no restaurants, no places to shop. The snow will be as bad as you'll expect it to be. The few good things: The weather and scenery can be awesome at times. Fishing and hunting is also fun in that area, if you're into either of those. Edit: another thing - assuming your wife is in the military, I'd say that you'll want to live on base. The facilities and area are kept fairly nice in comparison to other bases I lived on.

Yes, we are going to live on base, and yes, she is the officer, and I am the gentleman.

If anything though, I would say it's a good opportunity to develop some good savings and investments for the next four years, as there's nothing really to spend money on. The cost of living there is very low.

That is actually our plan, as we are saving about $1.5K a month here in stupidly expensive CA, and hope to nearly double that in ND, move back to the puget sound area, and pretend none of this happened. Anyone else want to depress me also?
