No matter how many times I get Deep-Tissue massage or acupuncture I just can't seem to get rid of these big piles of sore knots in my upper back. Anyone have any experience or solutions?

Which part of upper back? Near your traps or spine?

Have you thought about the cause? If you keep getting them I'd say your body is out of balance in some way (scoliosis, work related movements?) or you are very stressed about something chronically.

Shoulders, shoulder blades and rotator cuffs...not around the spine at all.

Rotator cuffs can be serious injury.
Go see a sports doctor and go for X rays and physios to get a definitive answer.

Get one of these. Best purchase I've made in a long time. I actually had some shoulder pain recently and using it with targeted pressure on a muscle next to my scapula completely relieved it. It took a few days but I finally got that muscle to release. You can use this thing anywhere but I find it most useful on my back as I cannot usually find someone to push hard enough (or long enough) to get rid of knots. It's an awesome little device and it feels sooooo good

Wow...I saw that at a Relax the Back shop for $45!!! I thought it seemed like a rip-off at that price!

I would strongly urge a visit to an orthopedic.

I had a similar issue about a dozen years back. Was diagnosed as an inflammed bursis (sp?) sack causing the muscle to almost perpetually spasm.

One cortisone shot did the trick, caused it to relax enough to heal and not spasm

I had suffered for a long time prior to that and kick myself in the butt for not seeing a specialist sooner
