there's a lot of inspiration to be found in westernwear. watch the HBO series "deadwood" and be prepared to think that ascots and waistcoats and longer topcoats are seriously the ****.

It seems to me that for a man inclined to be flamboyant, Western wear offers nice options without being overly costumey. For example, wearing a cowboy hat with a Western suit wouldn't be out-of-place except maybe in Boston.

I like them because they (generally) are less refined as fabric & construction than what the contemporary suits have become.
It's unfortunate that wearing one outside of the actual west won't go too well.

I see them being worn by Mexicans in California. It's rather nice to see men fully-dressed in hat and suit.

I'm a fan of western wear, but more of the old Nudie's Rodeo Tailor style. The more modern polyester-looking business models don't particularly interest me. I rather enjoy the flashier offerings (in terms of shirts) that Rockmount is making.

One of my favorite musicians, Unknown Hinson, wears a bastardized version of the western suit in his live performances. Usually adorned with a humorous theme and some interesting details they really "make" his stage persona.

If I had the money, I'd definitely like to head down south to see Manuel. He seems to be one of the last remaining rodeo tailors of the old generation.

I have made several of the western suits with rhinestones. I found this forum by accident...here is a sample.

As someone who has worn almost entirely "minimal" styled fashion ever since I really started paying attention to what I wore, I'm therefore slightly amazed to admit that...probably... so would I. I'm sure I'd never wear it, but it would be great just to have one, waiting, for that ONE occasion.
