I got a good chuckle from your email. Now, perhaps you were being 100% objective in your assessment, but I think I recall reading enough of your emails over the last year to indicate that this jacket is very far removed from your "style" -- which I think leans more towards jeans and sneakers than professorial or preppy.
No, I'm not a friend of preppy, but I can appreciate good "professorial" clothing, although I wouldn't choose it for myself. The problem with that particular jacket was that the pattern had all of 1) a large, complicated pattern, 2) lots of colors, and 3)high contrast between the colors, the combination of which makes for a brain splitting headache (especially since I have a hangover this morning.) Combine that with the extremely low, sad, drooping gorge (very 80's, not timeless at all, if that is how you choose to evaluate things,) and you've got yourself an ugly coat. See, I could have written all that. But it was much more fun just to cast dispersions on the stupid thing. BTW, nothing wrong with a subltle windowpane, which is actually a lot easier to get right than a houndstooth.
