Samsung vs Nokia Phones

Ok, 7 short months into the life of my Nokia N73, its broken and unrepairable (according to their service center). So I'm in the market for a new cell phone again.

I'm choosing between the Nokia N73 again or a Samsung SGH-G600.

I'm considering Nokia again because I was pretty happy with it when I had it (good camera, great battery life, i'm used to the interface) but I did not like the glitchy software and the slow camera shot to shot speed. Uses Symbian S60 OS which allows 3rd party applications to be added to phone. Oh and its more expensive than the Samsung.

I'm considering the Samsung because they apparenly make the best phones overall, the camera is 5 mega pixels, and it's less bulkier than the nokia. I would have to sell the extra Nokia battery I have but the 2GB microSD memory card will work with it.

What do you guys think based on the above. I'll make a choice sometime tomorrow or during the weekend.

I've used most brands but my latest phone is a Samsung slider, the E250. I've honestly never have been happier with a cell phone. That G600 looks fantastic.

If you do go for a Nokia again go for maybe the E51 instead, IMO, or some other later (faster model).

Anyway, Phonescoop has a comparison engine. Stuck the two together.

Do you need the ability to run native Symbian apps? If not, maybe the extra $$$ would be unnecessary.

Came across another phone: The Samsung U700 its 3Megapixels (which is enough for me in my experience) and is 3G capable (not real necessary in the US, but nice to have I think). From where I've looked its ~$30 cheaper than the G600.

Skalogre, I don't really "need" to run Symbian apps but it's nice to have the option. I really liked having Nokia Maps on my N73.

I think I'm really leaning toward the G600 right now.

In my opinion, if you are looking for quality, I would opt for a Nokia. Though I find most of Nokia phones durable, I'm skeptic with the Nokia phones which have flips, cameras and slides. The others which don't have these are really, really durable and I've proven that for myself.

Samsung phones are rather more on the stylish side. I have had one before and it was the flip type. It really didn't last long though because the LCD was destroyed..

..

+1. Ive tried both (samsung only once but more on that later)

Ive had several Nokias, all of which are still running. One is still running perfectly after like 8 years.

My 6630 is still running perfectly as well.

N80 ran great then sold it.

My N95 is doing good now, although id say the slider *feels* vulnerable as opposed to the regular ones but havent had a problem yet either.

I once bough a samsung, when i was chosing the salesperson told me the Samsung would only last me one year, but i got it anyway since i wanted a change.

After a year, the screen is blank, the battery is crap, etc....

Nokia >>>> Samsung, quality wise.

But the Samsung i tried was a few years ago.

Plus it seems like between the 2 ur picking, the Samsung is a league up as far as features, so that makes it a closer race.

Oh and always get the Made in Finland Nokias.

As the owner of both brands, each obviously have their ups and downs. I currently have a Nokia N95. So far it has survived being submerged in vanilla coke and being covered in a sticky, alcoholic strawberry juice. It's also come through a good few falls to the ground. Still it shows no signs of any ill-effects, save for a few minor scratches. Bloody durable for a slider. On the downside, my wife's N95 crashed, we couldn't reload the software from the Nokia disc and reverted to getting it off Nokia online; it's never been the same since. And yes, the camera's pretty neat but slow as buggery to react. As for Samsung, I owned a flip in the past. It had bloody awful ringtones but had brilliant build quality. It snapped shut with a reassuring thud, akin to the feeling you might get when closing the door of a BMW. Mine had its fair share of abuse but still it's going strong. As for Samsung's new sliders which I considered before going with the N95, they slide as smooth as silk but are still built exceptionally well - and tough. They have some very good graphics and features too, especially considering what they pack into their now very thin phones. If you see your phone as a boastful accessory and want a prestige brand, go with the Nokia. But for build quality, reliability and brilliant value for money, all of which Samsung boasts in spades, go for the latter. BTW, I've also had Ericsson and Sony Ericsson's... they just don't compare IMO.
