There is an interesting article on China and branding in the NY Times. My 2 cents worth: if you can make a shirt that the folks here will buy, then you probably could build a brand around it.

Actually China is much more hermetic. I hope this situation will be changed soon.

I believe even at $150 price, these shirts are profitable. But if they can charge $500 and people are suckers for high price tags, why not?

I wonder how many sewers in those Italian workshops are Chinese.

Can Chinese manufacturers make high quality shirts comparable to top Italian brands? Probably. Can they sell shirts for $500 even if they make shirts 10x better than Borrelli/Kiton? Probably not, as long as they have to label their shirts "made in China".

Because of the little book that comes with them.
