Best pizza in NYC?

I've heard that the pizza in NYC is first rate, but the last couple of times I visited I didn't find anything good. I'm going to be in NYC this weekend, so I'd love to hear some suggestions. Something easily accessible would be ideal, ie something near a major shopping center.

I like Lombardi's. Not too far from the major SoHo shopping areas and the B, F, D, V, N, R, 6 trains all have stops in that general vicinity.

I second the Lombardi recommendation. http://www.totonnos.com/ is also good. If you are willling to travel to brooklyn there are excellent places there

There are the Big Three - Lombardi's, John's and Grimaldi's (in Brooklyn). Totonno's is fantastic, but it's a hike to Coney Island. Likewise, the original Patsy's in East Harlem, but you might not want to make the trip.

I can't belive Joe's hasn't been mentioned yet. It's a standing room only, slice pizza place. It's on Bleeker and 6th, right on the west corner. Go to Lombardi's.

Holy Dino thread! I'll be in NYC in a week, down near Radio City Music Hall. Where should I go to try NYC pizza? Preferably something nearby.

John's in the Village. Other locations are okay, but not as good.

That's the answer. Don't expect anything more than a great pizza though (e.g. good service, nice attitude or a variety of drinks)

Other great pizzas in the same Italian pizza category (as opposed to NY pie style):
- No.28 on Carmine Street in the Village
- Waldy's in Chelsea/garment district

The only pizza i've had was lombardi's which was really great and Ben's which was a hole in the wall by the slice place by NYU which was very good for cheap pizza. It was reccomended to me by my NYU friend.

Count: Grimaldi's under the east tower of the Brooklyn Bridge is, IMO, the best in the city. I also love Lombardi's, which I think is the best in Manhattan.

Good pizza in midtown is sadly hard to find. There is a John's location in Times Square, not far from where you will be. It's good, but -- as another poster noted -- not nearly as good as the original in the Village.

Patsy's is a chain (Manhattan only, so not an Olive Garden-type chain) that people love to hate. The original in the old Italian section of East Harlem is the best, but the others are not bad, IMO.
