How's the quality of Land's End ties?

^ mehhh. Okay for around 20 bucks on sale. They're kinda "flat", not a lot of bounce back in them.

I heartily recommend Hober ties, though. And yes, David, it would be great to have a shepherd check. Maybe with 1/4 inch check in gray/black or gray/navy.

Try telling that to the guys at LL. The LE is a gingham (b/w shepherd check?) and more closely resembles Gary Cooper's, while theirs is a 'faux pois'.

I'm of that age where everyone one knows becomes married off. I have a vintage, wide Turnbull & Asser similar to the one above but in red and white which I used most recently here in Accra; I'll possibly look up Sam Hober and Kent Wang when I return to the UK

It must be interesting living in Accra especially with two rainy seasons. Thailand's rainy season is just now starting. Turnbull & Asser makes beautiful ties a dark red and white would look good. I assume you mean a dark red rather than a bright one.

^ It's more a houndstooth "effect" tie, made up of squares that resemble the pattern from differing angles and lighting; certainly one to trick the eye a little

The red is quite pale but seems stronger and shimmering due to the way the silk catches light. I'd have preferred a darker red, especially for a wedding, but it is indeed very well made. I've been meaning to acquire a more traditional wedding tie for some time, although I have one or two capable substitutes

Actually Thailand is indeed going through interesting times and I think that the rains will cool things off.... Have you been to Bonwire near the Asante capital of Kumase? I have seen photographs of some beautiful silk.

^ Yes indeed. My family is Ashanti and I was taken to Bonwire by my mother over 10 years ago to see the weavers at work - whilst I have this time here, I hope to go again. She gave me a Kente silk tie and pocket square set for my birthday last year

I've been meaning to source some shirting fabrics; the prints here are also ideal for waggish and bold pocket squares and scarves, which I know at least one fellow already does here. A friend's wife has established a womenswear line based around those prints; I also have a cousin who's a dressmaker. Her tailor may be able to realise my shirts

I have a Thai silk necktie but I forgot it in London. I blogged about your pocket squares yesterday as I've always liked your website

I enjoyed looking at your blog - you have a fresh take on style. I would imagine that your background gives you an appreciation for bright and cheerful patterns. I would love to use some of the woven silks for pocket squares please send photos if you see something interesting one day....

Indeed, I definitely think my roots play a part in my flamboyant choices; I'll have to post a traditional kente cloth ensemble in WAYWRN some time this year

As promised; The Turnbull Tie:

Bumping this old thread rather than starting a new one. I'm getting my groomsmen, ushers, and my dad and my fiancee's dad their own wedding ties. They are all going to be in charcoal suits and white shirts. I was planning on this one from Kent Wang (Black & White Shepherd's Check) www.kentwang.com/ties/shepherds-check.html My fiancee likes this one from Sam Hober a little better being Black & Silver. www.samhober.com/formal-wedding-silk-ties/formal-wedding-silk-tie-clone-2.html Not that it matters one way or another but just wanted to get some other thoughts between the two.

I'll cast my vote for Wang. Both will look similar in photographs (i.e. from far they will blend to grey) - the Wang will show up a bit lighter. I went with the Wang glen plaid for my wedding. Very nice tie.
