I have a bunch as well. Not much you can use the silvery-grey ones except a white shirt.

A widely spaced pin striped body with white c&c works but you're absolutely right that the choices are limited.

Thought I would bump this up. I have to attend an evening wedding on May 18th, and I would like to wear a proper tie for it. As of now, the plan is to wear a charcoal suit, and a white shirt. Where can I score a nice appropriate wedding tie for a reasonable price? I will be in the NJ/NYC area soon, so my shopping options will vastly improve.

Also, if anyone feels like selling one from their closet, I am all ears. Thanks for all the help.

Thanks to all the contributors of this thread over time. I was the officiant for the wedding of two of my dear friends a few weeks ago and I wanted to find something rather traditional and classic. This thread was a great help.

First of all, finding wedding ties in San Francisco was a challenge. Only Ralph Lauren seemed to stock them regularly. They had the glen plaid tie as mentioned by Mark from Plano. They carried the black, navy, brown and green variations, but the colors were all pretty dark and under the interior lighting it was nearly impossible to tell them apart. The salesman looked up the SKUs to be sure which was which. They also had a red puppystooth as well, and as tempting as it was, I was resolute on black & silver.

Since I had already been to Nieman, Saks, Wilkes, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom and found nothing, I went ahead and puchased the black glen plaid tie.

After leaving RL, I stopped in at Cable Car Clothier and much to my delight found a perfect silver and black Macclesfield. I purchased it as well, figuring I would keep the one that matched my suit better. I'm glad that I did as it was the one I kept.



Although in that photo it looks a solid, satin silver, it is similar to the one left-of-center in Manton's collection of Macclesfields:

what color suit and shirt would a wedding attendee wear with one of those ties? Navy Suit and white shirt? Charcoal Suit and White shirt?

I would personally recommend a charcoal suit as opposed to the navy option. I believe it would compliment the tie much better. At the same time, you don't want to look too much like the groom either so its probably a matter of getting that balance.

Would all of these be suitable as a wedding tie? I can't decide. Only 4 and 7 have the houndstooth pattern. These would be worn with a morning coat and buff (light yellow) linen waistcoat. Any thoughts?

So can anyone suggest sources other than Drake's for wedding ties? I need a couple and would rather order domestically if at all possible.

Have you looked at Kent Wang's? The range is a little limited, but what he has is excellent, as is the quality and price. And he is domestic (I have visited his home to buy in the past!).
