Anybody able to provide a lesson on these. I know that black and white glenplaid is always right, but what else can you do? Can you wear a navy and white glenplaid, or are you limited to black, white and silver?

Are you asking about when you're wearing a stroller and button boots or with a lounge suit (on the beach)?

I imagine you could wear whatever. I think the simpler black and white ones tend to look best.

The three most classic patterns are (left to right) houndstooth, shepherd's check, and glen plaid:

Shepherd's check is, IMO, the ne plus ultra of wedding ties, and my favorite.

Black/white/silver/gray is the safest and most iconic color palate. But dark blue can substitute for black and is very elegant.

The one in the center is blue and yellow shepherd's check on a pale silver ground. I like it for spring/summer:

The one on the far left is a light navy with a silver plaid. Second from left is a silver/black Macclesfield. Second from right is a classic shepard's check. Far right is a houndstooth.

Here is a houndstooth with pale blue and dark brown (thank you, AlanC!):

Some more Macclesfields:

Now, that's a pretty tie. I really can't get myself to wear a black and white one.

What the hell is wrong with you?

And, of course, you always have the option of black and silver.

It seems too monochromatic, particularly with a dark grey suit and a white shirt. If I were wearing a navy suit, it might be a different story.

I do tend to wear my black/silver ties with blue suits, and my blue/silver ties with gray suits. Not always, but I do like the way it looks.

I've seen these in both blue and black from RLPL at the RL shop here in Dallas. I have the black/white one, but not the blue/white one.

In case you're wondering, no polo pony anywhere in sight.
