Sizzler chain

Does anyone remember the Sizzler chain restaurant with buffet service? While I have seen them in other parts of the country the one near where I grew up closed many years ago. It makes me wonder why when restaurants such as the Iron Skillet and Crackle Barrel seem to do so well in the same vicinity.

I have been to the Ponderosa on a couple of occasions but don't think they have as a diverse selection as I remember Sizzler having.

Sizzler, I believe, had quite a few scandals of the health nature. Plus, it's gimmick/brand/style just got old, and new gimmicks took it's place.

Many people I know find it trendy to go to Crackle Barrel for brunch on the weekend but I am generally too hungry for the wait which is usually extensive.

Trendy? Criminy, I thought I lived in the sticks.... Around here, Cracker Barrel is mainly an alternative for families and seniors. I've eaten there, and it's, you know, ok, but not exactly a culinary destination.

When we first moved to the South, we were driving down and stopped at a Cracker Barrel.

I dont remember the food, decor, or clientele (I was only 8), but I do remember a waitress calling me Honey Chile. My parents found it hilarious, and to this day my Dad takes great pleasure in calling me that when he wants to give me a hard time.

It was a slippery slope. I picked up ya'll shortly after that

I have fond memories of chicken wing/ice cream/chocolate mousse/jello dinners from back when I was a fat kid.

If i'm going to go to a shitty, non-vegas buffet it's gotta be the Golden Corral.

I don't know if it's because of the popularity of the celebrity southern chef Paula Dean but in the Philadelphia area the Crackle Barrels always have over an hour wait on weekends if you didn't make a reservation.

I only went to sizzler a handful of times as a kid (something about the malibu chicken being good and the bread, too) even though there were several around Hollywood/LA, most of which are closed now. SoCal only had one of these Golden Corral for a few years in a really weird spot. I remember having to go see a movie across the street so I headed over to GC for lunch expecting something awful. I was actually surprised at the quality/taste. Far better than all the places I'd been to in Vegas, save for one or two exceptions. I'm surprised no one's mentioned just how f'ing weird sizzler was set up. What other restaurant has waiters that are too lazy to take your order but you need to tip because they took out your food and gave you refills?????

I only went once. It was on Easter one year on the way back from a road trip. i cannot even begin to describe how frightening the scene was.
