thanks for the body fat link, lefty.

I don't know, DEXA maybe.

It's one of those somewhat meaningless numbers (like BW) that doesn't matter that much unless you're in a BF competition (as someone already said) or looking for bragging rights. Probably the best way to determine BF is by using a variety of sources and averaging them. To me that seems like a ton of work, not to mention expensive, when my mirror is pretty well going to tell me what I need to know about how I'm doing this month compared to last month.

Or if you're really dedicated, take daily pics for a year like John Stone.

No way it can be your normal level.

(and no, this has nothing to do with how thin you are and only marginally with your metabolism even if it is, as you claim in that wonderful tone of yours "that of superman")

Incorrect, once I had stated that I accepted that the reading might be inaccurate I only went on to find the faulted logic of several posters' assumptions.

And I know you of people are aware of the colorful uses of language enough to not need to lower yourself by grilling me over the use of a very popular one.

I really don't understand how anyone thought I was using the number to brag about it...I was concerned for my health, and that is all.

Jon.

No. Third post proved to you it could not be your real level. You answered immediatly that you could not be far off, based on your weight. You continued that kind of nitpicking afterwards.

That is not the way I read the posts. I don't understand how you came about to that conclusion.

You were concerned for your health? Really? And you decided the best way to deal with this concern was by asking anonymous people on a men's clothing forum for advice?

If you are capable of reading and writing here, your low BF% is not a health issue. You have a much larger potential issue in that you're 5'7" tall and only weigh 123 lbs putting you on par with the average girl on a high school field hockey team.

So, you don't have to fear low BF at all. Instead, you have to worry about not pissing off high school girls who very well could hand you your ass.

Is getting into fights high school girls a recurring problem with you that you feel that you must project the problem onto me?

And I mention in passing that my annual physical with my doctor is coming up and I will ask him to check my body fat, I just wanted to get an idea before I went to him, since I was quite startled by the number. But, yes, how bizarre that I post such a question on the "˜body consciousness' forum? What was I thinking?

Asking for training/dieting advice is one thing. Asking for health advice is another.

I recently watched Battle Royale, so yes, I do live in fear of 15-year-old Japanese school girls.

You said, precisely, "there is no way I'm that far away from that number". I don't know of any other way to read this except that, as I stated earlier, "you answered immediatly that you could not be far off".

I sometimes read threads like this in a finance forum. Post usually goes like this:

Hey, my wife and I are in our early 20's, earn 750k/year, have zero debt, own our house, and we're maxing out our retirement accounts. What else should we be doing financially?

They don't usually disclose their body fat % but I'd bet it's 5.3% at most.

You can't. There is no way to chose where body fat is distributed.

I don't know why you just assumed that everyone had the same body type as you do and has a propensity to add bodyweight as easily as you do.

Jon.

If you are hitting the gym and gaining mass, you will be lowering your bf % if you gain muscle mass.

Numerical example:

You have 10 pounds of fat with 190 pounds of lean mass.
You work out and gain 10 pounds of lean mass.
You have 10 pounds of fat with 200 pounds of lean mass.
Bf % falls
