few people wear nikes in SW&D. i think you're in the right place though. just use the search button and look in the what i wore today thread to get a sense of what everyone here is all about. in general, mainstream brands are seen as overpriced for their quality, essentially marketing/buy into the brand ploys.

There are plenty of us here who don't wear suits on a daily basis. Me being one. But I do like your style, and I think you'll fit in just fine.

I come here to get information about fabrics, quality of clothes, suiting, and just all around good outfit ideas. You can learn a lot about the brands you wear just by casually browsing the different threads.

you'd be surprised. I think you might like the streetwear forum just fine. Check out the "what are you wearing today" threads (at the top of each forum) and see what suits you best.

I vote you stay on this side of the great divide.

I really like the outfit in the second pic you posted.

I think you'll be fine either in here or in Streetwear or two-timing both forums.

If you browse the respective pinned WAYW threads, you'll see that generally this forum polarises to more tailored outfits while Streetwear tends to less tailored looks. However there's a certain degree of variation in both and probably the best thing to do is to figure out which one you feel more at home in.

As another relative newcomer, it does seem that the streetwear and denim forum is mostly denim and youngun's looking cool on The Street, and this forum is mostly suits, with the occasional starfish shirt.

The middle ground of, say, the casual side of business casual falls through the cracks (to mix metaphors).

As the workplace gets more casual, it is even more important to get advice/inspiration for ways to look good without being so totally overdressed relative to ones colleagues, while at the same time not trying to look 21 again...

I would guess that others in my profession (University professors) would also generally fit into this middle ground, where the donning of a sport coat typically indicates a major event.

Would a third forum be warranted?

Welcome to Style Forum! I like your sense of style, as it's somewhat similar to my own. I understand your concern, as I am academic and have to dress well for work, although suit & tie aren't required. I've browsed both this forum and Streetwear, and like both. "Streetwear" I think is a bit of a misnomer, because I don't think it's really all hoodies and Nikes they're talk about there; there are tons of threads about things like Paul Smith shoes or slim fit trench coats. I tend to prefer this forum than Streetwear, as I prefer discussing styles that are more timeless, rather than clothing that is more "trendy" or "fashionable" (no offense intended to Streetwear loyalists!). What I've really enjoyed about this forum is the emphasis on subtlety and the eye for detail that many of the members have. I also like the depth of knowledge many members have about the tailoring process, shoe manufacturing, etc. Spend some time reading and enjoy!

I feel that academe has just perfectly summed up my own thoughts on this forum; main point being that it's centered around timeless style. Judging by the pictures you have posted, I think you would do best by browsing both forums, as this one can appear to be centered around suits a lot of the time. Like you, I find that neither totally fit in with my own personnal style, so I like to get the best of both worlds (although, I have a greater tendancy towards this forum... ).

I can empathise with your dilema about not being able to dress up for work, but I'd advise you spend a few hours looking at the shoe-related threads on this forum. A decent pair of shoes will really set you apart from the crowd, without over-dressing you for the occassion. I thought I knew a lot about shoes before I came here...
