Mature Hairstyle?

I am 23 and about to begin working as a stockbroker, my biggest disadvantage being my age. I am trying to find a look that makes me look older, mature, sophisticated, etc. The person hiring me suggested I grow a beard to look older, i have done this and I think it looks good. I have straight brown hair. Questions... 1. Do you think the beard is a good call? 2. What styles would you recommend in an attempt to look older? 3. Is a beard with a side part an acceptable style?

short back and sides - always worked for me!! - I tried the beard, but just looked silly - the best bet is look comfortable, not like your putting on a disguise, its more about who you are and what you know and don't know that will have people be aware of your character and not so concerned about the age you look give the beard a try if your comfortable with it and you think its an asset go with it - if it makes you look or feel stupid - I'd say no!

Beard or no, the side part is always acceptable. I'm a bit biased though, I've regularly been rocking the side part since I was about 3!

try a well groomed longer hairstyle. i pass for a teenager when i wear sneakers and jeans with my short sides and back, while others have commented i look like a four year old with a semi shaved head. people think i'm older though when i go out. so yeah more mature clothes and a medium length cut would do it. a beard with a side part sounded funny to me.

I would suggest leaving the beard. It would be good if you could cut the top and the sides (your "business") short while leaving the back to grow out (your "party").

I'm in a similar situation as you. I'm 24 and I look younger. To look older, I wear custom shirts and suits and expensive, but somewhat conservative shoes (JLP, Vass, C&J, EG, Ferragamo, Canali, etc). Since I'm in sales, I would never grow facial hair -- that, and the fact that I still cannot grow a full beard yet . The reason I would not grow facial hair is that the presence of facial hair on a man gives the impression that he has something to hide, that he may not be completely trustworthy. Don't ask me to explain this, it's an instinctual thing. Next time you see a salesman, look at his face, 9 times out of 10, he will have not a lick of facial hair. Anyway, if you're not in sales, then facial hair may be OK. Another thing I make sure to do is be extremely knowledgeable about my job, much more so than my colleagues. That way, though I may lack in age and experience I can make up for it (to an extent) with superior knowledge. Good luck!

A beard is not a good idea. If you look younger than your age - praise the rare man who is brave enough to show himself - maybe a professionally-created hairstyle in a medium or medium-long length will help. Anything worn by people who haven't yet left school likely will hurt. Ultimately, other aspects of your demeanor will impact your perceived age more than hairstyle will.

I was once in your shoes and grew a mustache.

I did another thing - I went to a good mens hair place, a serious type of place, and asked for advice from the barber. told him the story, and asked for his input. I think that it did a good job. you might want to try that.

I am not a big fan of beards on young guys at all. Very very few people can pull off a beard. I like a beard better than a goatee though.

Improve your demeanor most of all because looking young is a wonderful thing. A side part is always good. I would love to rock the side part but I hate how it emphasizes my receding hairline, which I hide with long or disheveled hair.

On that note, get a receding hairline!

I'm 22 and sport the "business man" during the week. The advantage to this is on the weekend it's still long enough to just push to the side and look casual instead of going for a hard part. It's alot more versatile than people give it credit for.

Only issue is, you have to do something with it or it just looks like crap.

Forget the side part, the side spike is where it's at!
