Style of Your Significant Other - Page 3

My girlfriend used to work at a clothing store and then she worked at a spa where they could only wear black. She's got great taste, a mix of everything, and I think it's important. I couldn't date a girl who wore unattractive clothes or dressed too "loud" or slutty.

Look at something by Cristobal Balenciaga. It's unsexy yet very stylish and chic. Someone once wrote that chic before the era of Halston meant that there was no sexual appeal involved.

A beautiful lady with a (lily white complexion) perfectly made up, leggy with well turned calves and a great hat would indeed look downright sexy in that costume.

Balenciaga was one of the great masters of the 20th Century couture. Yes, his style was engineering: very structured and sculptural. Likely this came from his architectural background. Not for the female faint of heart but for any lady that wanted to be a grande dame in the best sense of the word. Charles James was his American equivalent, but his career was more turbulent. Yes, the ladies were more "covered up" in the esthetics of the time - and that's exactly what made them more alluring. More mystery allows for more imagination and more titillation. The look you have chosen is bloody fantastic. It is very sexy, but by another world standard.

She can wear whatever the hell she wants to as long as her shoes are sexy .. I stopped seeing this girl because she refused to wear heels.... sigh ...

Another example...In collusion with Mr. Labelking's reference to what is "unsexy" by today's "Halstonized" standards: Exactly 48 years ago - Harper's Bazar circa April, 1960.

Nothing could be more stylized or iconic than a (still living) legend wearing a costume by one of the great American designers of the period, Chicagoan Mainbocher. Photographed by another legend, Richard Avedon. Mainbocher gained noteriety and fame by designing the Duchess of Windsor's wedding dress and trousseau.

And who is the lady in this magnificent Avedon photo? None other than the mother of impish character pundit of CNN's 360: Anderson Cooper. Gloria Vanderbilt. She may be a granny today, but, jeezus - If this ain't something to make a grand entrance and blow away the competition I don't know what in hell is these days. I'd take this as A1 sexy and a killer one to boot.

I was at the right time and place a couple of years ago, during an estate sale of the late great choreographer Agnes De Mille, and managed to procure her entire vast collection of leather bound Harper's Bazar magazines. This - is my definition of style. Nothing sexier than confidence of this sort. Pleased to say that M' Lady Penelope has it in spades.

Ahh - yes, an important prerequisite! She wouldn't give in no matter what the occasion?? More tragic and frustrating to you, if she had beautiful legs and small well-proportioned ankles too... For your sake, I hope she didn't to make the separation easier. If not, what a bummer.

Well, she had most pretty feet, legs, and ankles. To add to that her toe nails are perfect too, IMO. But she said that she cannot wear heels due to her injuries on her knees. I really hate to see girls on flat shoes ..

Well then, it does sound like a tragedy.

Pretty Girls in Black always are the temptress - and it's hard and sometimes impossible to resist their charms.
More dangerous when she has a perfect figure to your tastes and it's beautifully cut and shaped to fit.
If she likes a single strand of pearls to play against her complexion - you are a very lucky fellow. So is she - you will do anything to keep her happy.

And you stopped seeing her because she refused to wear heels? Glad to see the gentleman ends at the clothes and not at the heart.

A concern only if a serious romance. However, it is a big world and in the event one does find a true soulmate - compromise and concession always win. There's nothing wrong with looking for perfection and most of us are in pursuit of it. None of us ever attain it. But that's the fun in searching for the ideal.

a girl w/ great style can really catch your eye & improve her own appearance. but i don't know if i'd like to date someone who's more finicky about clothes than i am.

i'd rather a laid back girl, who can deal w/ a typically neurotic NYer.
