I am sorry for being rough with you.
Let's put things into some perspective...
This thread started over a year ago,
so Spiff will no doubt, have changed some things over the course of the last year.
Also, Spiff is a young man, and one cannot assume that he started the thread just for attention.
His 'look' is where his mindset is (or was), and it is (for better or worse) his own style.
As this website is called 'StyleForum',
then all styles from all members must be, if not accepted, at least tolerated.
I am certain that we have all worn clothes or combinations at one time,
that today, we would be ashamed to admit.
But this is, after all, how we evolve and grow in our skills.
It would be a very boring world if we all dressed the same, true?
The only concern I feel toward others, regarding their clothing choices,
is to see them get their colour/texture matching done well,
or perhaps refning the proportions of their clothes.
The fact that Spiff purchases from thrift stores,
does, in no way mean that he is 'cheap'.
He is a musician; an artist, and I am sure you know, most
artists are starving artists
I consider him to be a very wise and resourceful young man.
He is a survivor.
And no matter his choices for clothes, he is far better dressed than most people on the street.
He has chosen a look for himself that is, at the very least, entertaining.
If we have chuckled at one of his jackets,
we ought to thank him
for the smile or laugh he gave us today.
There are plenty of members here who have already offered to assist him,
and when he feels a need, I am certain that he will very graciously accept their help.
At this point in the thread,
I am very appreciative that Spiff has shared some links to videos of him performing,
which really fills a lot of the missing pieces.
It puts into context 'why' he dresses the way he does.
Bottom line...he's a young man enjoying life the best he can,
and, as a fellow musician, I salute him.
So he thrifts, so what. So do a lot of us here.
Should he max out a credit card on trendy things, waste his money, and be in debt?
He is VERY wise to experiment paying only pennies on the dollar.
I am sure you'll even agree with me on these points.
He submitted himself to this forum's opinions not
to draw attention to himself.
He submitted himself here with humility;
to people he respected for their opinions and experience.
Heck the guy is learning, and let's be honest...so are we all.
Hey, I want to Thank You Spiff, for having the guts young brother,
and mostly, for being a perfect gentleman
while running the gauntlet here.
You have earned my respect 100%
Do what you do.
