Fit of Varvatos Jeans

I'm looking into buying a pair of John Varvatos jeans on eBay and wondering how their fit is like. I know Varvatos is no Dior Homme so it must be pretty roomy in thigh and hip, but I don't want something like Levi's. Specifically how would it compare with Paper Denim (either relaxed or regular model) and Seven jeans? When asked about measurements of thigh and hip, the seller gave me 10.5" for thigh and 17.5" for hip. I just don't understand how it goes up from 10.5" thigh to 17.5" hip. Depending on how the seller measured it (whether across one side or the entire area) these jeans must have a huge or damn narrow butt. Also I normally wear 30 waist. Would buying one size up be okay? I would ask the seller about these but the auction ends in ten hours and I don't know if I would get an answer in time. Thanks.

The fit is pretty classic - I would say that they fit mid rise and depending on the cut, are either slightly tapered, or a true straight leg. BTW, I would guess that the 17.5 measurement is across the waistband (for a total of 35 inches at the waist or hip depending on the fit), and the thigh measurement is across the top pair of the thigh (one leg only).  10.5 inches is pretty standard for that size (is the stated size 33 or 34?) You should also ask for rise and the measurement at the knee and at the hem to really know the fit.
