Since I missed the crowds in Florida I hear the Indy 500 is a good time and want to go to it. The actual race is slated for Sunday, May 25, 2008. But I hear there are some crazy parties a little bit before the actual race. When is the best time to go? Anyone have any experience?

Spend the whole weekend in Indy.

It's nuts the whole time. Hicks, beer, barbeque, hot women with large breasts showing them..... ugly women with large breasts showing them.

I don't like any kind of racing, but sometimes my family spends the weekend in Indy before the race b/c it's fun.

So the weekend will be sufficient? Arrive Thursday night and fly back Monday afternoon?

Nothing really happenin til Wednesday, and Thursday is when the people will start pouring in.
I'm not sure of this, but you may have a hard time gettin a hotel room for that weekend this close.

I'm glad I didn't book my tickets to Korea yet. I will probably fly straight from Seoul to Indy. I don't care if I have to get a hotel a ways away. There are hotels on priceline for less than $100/night still. I don't plan on being in the hotel too much but it would be nice to have one close to where the parties are at.

Where are the parties at? I heard they were in the race stadium's parking lot.

To the best of my knowledge, that's pretty much where they're at. Maybe if you had some friends that lived in Indy they'd be at their houses or whatnot, but other than that ti's pretty much all at the IMS.

I'm not a racing fan at all, but The 500 is a really good time. Too bad you can't make to the time trials, also a very good time. You'll be amazed at how loud and fast the cars are.

Yeah I've never been to a race. I used to live next to Searspoint but never went. It will be fun but I'm mostly looking for the booze and partying.

In that case, you probably won't have to look too hard. Just a word of warning, it's a total mess getting in there on the morning of the race.
I'd make hotel reservations asap if you definitely plan on going. It's a big deal.

Okay I'm in Indianapolis. About to head to the downtown area. I can't believe there are fewer clubs here than the small town I went to college in.

I hear Friday everything is going on downtown.

Saturday and Sunday after the race, the place to be is the motorway parking lot. On Saturday when does the fun start? All day?

There's a parade on Saturday and festivities all over the place afterwards. I'm not a race fan so I avoid the scene. Nonetheless, welcome to Indiana.

If you're going to be downtown, go to "Yat's" on Mass Ave. for lunch tomorrow.

Tomorrow evening, try "Barcelona" for dinner. It's in the same general vicinity as Yat's.

Tomorrow night, head to the "Ratskeller."

You can't help but like these three places.

+100. Yat's is great Cajun, Barcelona has the best tapas in Indy, and Rathskeller is some damn good German food.

Lish and I are goin to be out tonight to the Oceanaire Seafood Room.
Tiecollector, if you don't like Cajun, Spanish, or German food, check out Asaka Japanese Restaurant. It is fantastic. If you're gonna stick around Indy on Monday, go there anytime before 7 for "Sushi Happy Hour." Your mouth will melt.

Never done the bar scene, so can't help there.

If you smoke cigars, DEFINITELY check out Nickey Blaine's in the Nat Cole building. Indianapolis isn't known for its high class/ haute couture, but this is about as good as it gets in Indy.

I'm hopin we go to my family's lake house tomorrow and Monday, b/c it's going to be a bitch to be in Indy if you don't like the races.
